My screen is scratched up pretty bad but I need to go into apple and get a replacement because the earpiece doesn't work.
Just been too lazy to back everything up and restore the phone etc.
I don't have a scratch as bad as your coworker, but I have TONS that are close to that deep...

His scratch is not on the glass, it's on that cheap screen protector.

Samsung pulls Froyo update for Bell's Vibrant after reports of fried internal storage
We have no idea why Samsung's having such a hard time delivering its overdue promised Froyo upgrades worldwide for the Galaxy S series, but it's not looking any easier for them this weekend: the only Canadian Galaxy S to get upgraded so far, Bell's Vibrant, has just had its update pulled. Seems a healthy number of users attempting the upgrade using Sammy's Kies desktop software ended up with inaccessible internal storage, which sucks for a variety of obvious reasons -- and that would be the apparent reason for the removal of the update. Here's the official statement:
"There have been intermittent issues reported during the firmware upgrade process with Kies for the Samsung Galaxy S i9000M series of phones. Samsung's development team is currently aware of this issue and working towards a solution. Accordingly, The firmware update feature, which affects the ability to upgrade to Android 2.2, is temporarily disabled until a solution is released. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Maybe we can just go straight to Gingerbread or Honeycomb at this point?
(Remember I was talking about this months ago? It's even worse when you're trying to update the FW)

Apple May Have Patched Limera1n Bootrom Exploit In Newer iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch To Prevent Jailbreaking
A forum member of ModMyI claims that he was not able to jailbreak his iPad that he had bought recently using Redsn0w.
This has led to speculation that Apple might have patched the limera1n exploit that has been used in Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 in newer iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches that are being shipped.
To give you some background, back in October, Geohot had released a jailbreaking tool called Limera1n to jailbreak iOS 4.1 using a bootrom exploit. Since it was a bootrom (hardware level) exploit, it meant that Apple couldn’t stop the exploit from being used in existing iDevices to prevent them from being jailbroken but could do so in newer devices by patching the bootrom exploit.
ModMyI’s forum member believes that Apple has done just that and patched the exploit in newer iDevices. He writes:
I made a trip to the Apple Store today to get an iPad for my old lady (Christmas present). She told me she’d love it jailbroken, so I sat down in front of my computer to redsn0w this 4.2.1 iPad. One problem–redsn0w 0.9.6b6 could not upload a pwned iBSS (hanged at the white screen on OS X, upload timed out and rebooted into jailed state with Windows). Furthermore, the device constantly stalls when attempting to dump its bootrom. This leads me to believe the injection vector used via USB has been patched in DFU mode. Case in point: Any iOS device with a serial number xx050 (this week) or higher might be unable to be jailbroken via the limera1n exploit. Slightly older devices may be invulnerable as well.
You can find out if your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is jailbreakable using the limra1n exploit by checking your serial number to find out which week your iPhone was manufactured. You can find out which week your iPhone was manufactured from the serial number (seen in iTunes summary page or Settings App –> General –> About –> Serial Number). The first two digits of the serial number tells you the factory ID of where it was manufactured and the next three digits (Digits 3-4-5) tells you when it was manufactured.
Example: xx050xxxxxx - the 0 means 2010, and the 50 is the week of 2010 that it was manufactured.
So according to the speculations, new iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad manufactured from the 50th week of 2010 might come with updated bootrom. It won't be the first time Apple has done it to stay ahead of the cat and game with the iPhone jailbreaking community, in October last year, Apple had started shipping iPhone 3GS with newer bootrom to prevent jailbreaking.
Please note that these are still speculations at this stage, we will let you know as soon as any further information and a confirmation from the iPhone Dev Team.
iPhone 4 Unlock Less Than a Month Away?
There has been some news about the 4.2.1 jailbreak lately, but the unlock has been missing in action for some time. However, we got a little ray of light about ultrasn0w on Twitter from Egyptian baseband hacker Sherif Hashim, who worked on the 3.1.3 unlock. He's still keeping it on the down low - English-only speakers would have missed it - but he's indicated the unlock should be ready in about a month.
Sherif Hashim found an exploitable baseband crash that could bring an unlock for basebands 05.14.02 and 02.10.04 back in November. Very little has been heard since then, and nothing definitive as to the timing on a new ultrasn0w for iOS 4.1 and 4.2. One impatient unlocker sent Hashim a tweet in Arabic, saying he was going away for military service on January 16 and asking if the unlock would be ready by then. Hashim's response, in English: "sure."
The main reason we don't get a lot of news from these guys is that they need to spend their time hacking, not sending out updates. As Hashim promised yesterday, "whenever it is ready for beta testing and use, u ll all be notified thru @MuscleNerd's Twitter or mine." So consider following both on Twitter, and we'll also have the latest news available for you here.

As of 12.15.10, Rogers and Fido will block your stolen phone's IMEI.
To unblock it, you'll have to fork out the retail pricing.
This is pretty funny

I would highly recommend not Jailbreaking tethered, I just moved back down to 4.1 a few hours ago due to instability.
