Anything else I should know about in general? I'm with Rogers. |
Bold is a nice device, i'd go with it if you NEED 3G, if speed is not that big an option and you want a smaller sleeker device, go with the Curve 8900.
No need to unlock anything unless you want to use it with another carrier. |

Okay...I need some advice.
I have a Nokia E71 and I hate it. It stopped working yesterday for no reason and after hours of being on the phone with Rogers, I was told to "sleep on it" and try it today. It still didn't work, so today they said they'd send me a replacement.
Now my bf put an interesting idea in my head, and I wanted to ask your opinions to see if it was a feasible idea.
He basically said I should get the new Nokia e71 unlocked, sell it and use the money to buy an iPhone or Blackberry that I want. Do you think that would be a good economical decision? I technically have 2 years left on my contract, so I don't know how (or if) that would affect it if I bought a new phone, or if I'd just have to pay full price for the phone.
Thoughts? |

When did you get the original phone? Was it an upgrade? Rogers has a 2 yr upgrade time so if you're past that then you will get a discount for a new phone...
If you hate the Nokia, then it's a good idea if you can sell it since they're giving you a new one...
You won't have any problem with Rogers and a different phone as long as it works on their system... |

So the Nokia is just broken? Or what?
Besides that, tell Rogers that you are no longer satisfied with the Nokia, and that you don't trust the phone/device anymore. Say "but I love rogers service etc etc", but you're tempted to go with Telus/Bell because they have the Storm and you kinda want to go with a BlackBerry. Plead that nonsense and I almost garuntee you they will offer you a BOLD or 8900 CURVE. Say you don't like the price, so still going to go with the Storm because that is all your budget allows and you NEED a phone for work/school. They will most likely drop the price again to "fit your budget" and grab one of those. But make sure you first kinda look around at the pricing on the Storm for Telus or Bell so you kinda know what you are talking about. But make sure they know you are "conflicted" on changing company because you like the Roger's service, but hated the Nokia and curious of the Storm.
That's my advice. |

I got the original phone last December. Technically it was an upgrade (after 3 and a half years), but I called retentions and got them to give it to me for $100 and a deal on a data plan etc.
I don't know what's with the Nokia. I can't access the internet, I can't make/receive phone calls and it delivers/receives texts when it feels like. It just stopped working while it was sitting on my desk all day while I studied yesterday.
I totally see what you're saying Sandeep, BUT here's the thing...I want to spend ZERO money, as I'm broke as a ing JOKE at the moment. So the fact that they're sending me a brand new phone for nothing is appealing. I don't think I can call them back and ask them for a different one, as it's a REPLACEMENT phone. As well, they already verified my info and the phone is probably being sent already. |

Give it a shot, call up and say that you don't trust the Nokia anymore. And see what they can do for you on a BB. They might just send you a BB instead. Even if they did send it, whats the worst that can happen, they send the BB now and just tell you to refuse the Nokia when it comes to your door. It may take a bit of talk and haggling, but at the end of the day at least you get what you want.
In this day in age, where everyone pretty much has a cellphone, they mobile companies are not longer really intrested in obtaining new customers, but to retain their current ones. Customer service...
Worth a shot... and you know i'll help you out with the BB too ;) |

iPhone Skype App in Canadian AppStore Now

Skype [free - iTunes link], which debuted for the rest of the world back in March, is finally available for iPhone and iPod touch users in Canada. What took so long?
A “territorial restriction” over the licensing of a single, solitary audio codec used to play sound from Skype on the iPhone. No, we [insert secret Canadian curse word] you not. That’s it, and it’s been resolved, so go get it! |

Okay...update...need help!
So I called Rogers, and spoke to 3 different people, and they wouldn't budge. It got to the point where I just didn't feel like arguing anymore as I was getting no where. So getting a replacement of a Curve is not an option.
Back to my original plan then. What do you think about unlocking the brand new Nokia when it comes and selling it? What if I didn't unlock it and tried to sell it?
Would it be worth it to try that and then use the money to buy a Curve? Problem would be that I wouldn't have a phone while I'm trying to sell the Nokia, as I'd have to wait until I sold it to buy a new one.
Opinions? |
