Adobe Compromise Will Finally Bring Flash Video Streaming to iOS
Flash has been a thorn in Apple's side ever since the first iPhone shipped almost 4 years ago. While users have grown accustomed to their iOS devices not being able to display Flash content, it's unfortunate that Apple and Adobe have not been able to reach some sort of compromise before now.
Adobe, however, may have finally come up with a solution to the Flash dilemma once and for all with their latest version of Flash. At the National Association of Broadcasters trade show in Las Vegas, Adobe recently previewed the latest version of Flash that incorporates HTTP live streaming. With this new version of Flash, iOS devices will finally be able to display Flash video without the need to install any additional software on their devices.
Over the years Apple has been steadfast in their opposition to approving Flash for the iOS. Continually citing concerns over Flashs poor overall performance and being detrimental to battery life. At one point Apple CEO Steve Jobs even went so far as to post an open letter on the company website defending their position regarding Flash on iOS devices entitled, Thoughts on Flash.
Adobe's latest vision, however, is designed to help content publishers stream protected video to more types of mobile devices including Apple's iPad 2. This new streaming technology is being built into Adobe's Media Server and will allow a much wider variety of devices access to Flash video content. Their solution is designed to be transparent to the end user and will not require any additional software to be downloaded as well.
According to Adobes company blog, (HTTP Live Streaming) HLS is an MPEG2 transport stream (container) used by devices such as the Apple iPad 2. By adding support for HLS within the Flash Media Server, Adobe is reducing the publishing complexity for broadcasters who need to reach browsers supporting HLS through HTML5 (such as Safari) or devices where Adobe Flash is not installed.
For the average user, the details of this plan to get Flash video to more devices is a bit technical, however, in the not too distant future, Flash required warnings will be a thing of the past. If your device doesnt have Flash installed on it, no problem, the server will send you the video in a format that your device is capable of displaying. Its unclear just how long it will take Adobe to implement this across the board, but at least a solution to the Flash problem is finally on its way.

Apple sues Samsung for 'copying' the iPhone and iPad
Whoa! In the world of big-time lawsuits, this must be just about the biggest. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has sued Samsung Electronics for copying "the look and feel" of its iPad tablet and iPhone smartphone. This relates to the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the iPhone 3G / 3GS models, and the slightly less obvious Epic 4G, Nexus S, and Galaxy Tab (presumably the older 7-inch model, since the newer ones aren't out yet) devices. The claim for intellectual property infringement is phrased as follows:
"Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple's technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products."
The lawsuit was filed in the Northern District of California on Friday and seeks injunctions against Samsung, damages (both actual and punitive), and a finding that the infringement was willful. Lest we forget, the rarest outcome in such legal tussles is for an actual judgment to actually be handed down, so the greatest likelihood is that this will just lead to another round of grudging handshakes and licensing going one way with money going the other way, but still, it's fun to see the big dogs barking at each other.
Another aspect to these proceedings that shouldn't be overlooked is that, on the software front, they boil down to iOS versus Android (again). When Apple calls Samsung uninventive in its user interface, it's talking more about Android's perceived imitation of the iPhone's interface than whatever TouchWiz tweaks Samsung has slapped on top. And hey, if you're going to sue Google indirectly, you can't leave a major player like Samsung outside the courtroom, it just wouldn't be fair.
(It was gonna happen, sooner or later)
iPhone 4 Soon to be Top Camera on Flickr
Currently, the most popular camera used to upload pictures to Flickr is the Nikon D90, a fine DSLR that costs over a thousand dollars. But in about a month or so, if trends continue, Apples iPhone 4 will take the lead as the most popular camera on Flickr. The Nikon D90 has been out for about three years now and has sold very well, but the iPhone 4, which has been out for under a year and is considerably less expensive, is about to take the top spot on Flickr.
Its really not too surprising, however, as many people keep their iPhones with them most the time. A big, heavy, DSLR, may take much higher quality photos, but they cant compete with the convenience of a smartphone. The iPhones camera has progressively gotten better and better over the years. Now the images produced with the iPhone 4 are really quite good, especially for a camera with a microscopic lens.
You would think that regular point and shoot cameras would be right at the top of the list on Flickr as well, but this is not the case. Point and shoot camera sales have actually been on the decline in recent years and the majority of camera manufactures may one day stop producing them altogether, if this trend continues.
The iPhone also takes the top three spots when it comes to the most popular camera phones, as well. The HTC Evo 4G and Droid Incredible round out the list at number four and five. Surprisingly, the older model iPhone 3G is in second place ahead of the 3GS model, even though it only has a two megapixel camera.
With so many cameras available today that are capable of taking great looking pictures, its not too surprising to find that convenience has trumped quality. Just about any point and shoot camera will deliver better image results than a smartphone, but who wants to carry an extra electronic device if you dont have too. Professional photographer Chase Jarvis recently published a photography book where the only camera that he used was an iPhone. The book is aptly titled, The Best Camera Is The One That's With You . Flickr users would apparently agree.

iPhone Dev-Team Updates RedSn0w to Perform Untethered Jailbreak of iOS 4.3.2
The iPhone Dev-Team has just updated RedSn0w with the ability to perform an untethered iOS 4.3.2 jailbreak.
Only a few weeks after the 4.3.1 untether created by @i0n1c was released, Apple pushed out firmware 4.3.2. Thankfully, it appears Apple didnft have a chance to fix the hole used by @i0n1cfs untether, so he ported his code over to 4.3.2fs kernel. Todayfs redsn0w has been updated to include it
As always, ultrasn0w unlockers should stay away from redsn0w and only update their firmware through a custom IPSW. Wefll release a new version of PwnageTool sometime this week.
Note that many people are currently having problems updating to 4.3.2 through saurikfs server. Youfll need to remove the gs.apple.com entry in your hosts file in order to restore directly to Applefs servers.
You can download RedSn0w 0.9.6rc13 here:

We'll be updating our tutorials momentarily :)

White iPhone 4 used to demo new multitasking, Spotlight search in 'test version' of iOS? (video)
We've just laid eyes on a video from the prolific leaksters over at Tinhte, who claim they not only have a white iPhone 4 from Apple, but it's one with a "test version" of iOS that nobody else has yet seen. It's difficult to ascertain how legitimate this software is -- it could just be a neatly done jailbreak mod -- but that site has a track record of getting its hands on Apple gear ahead of the pack. With that said, the multitasking menu shown here substitutes the current use of apps' icons to represent them with a visual of each app's open window. You can tap on a window to expand it (replete with animation) to fill the screen or long-press on it to bring up the familiar "x" button for shutting it down. This is all accompanied by a new "Search iPhone" dialog at the very top, which sends you into Spotlight search that looks very much the way it currently does (though it seems to no longer be accessible with a left swipe from the first homescreen as on previous versions of iOS). Jump past the break for the video.
Update: A second video has been uncovered, this one showing that we're looking at a prototype unit and taking us on a tour around its body. A visit to the Settings menu shows a 64GB storage capacity, while app folder creation is also handled a little differently from iOS 4. The presence of the Touch Fighter app on this phone, which Apple built to show off the capabilities of earlier versions of the handset, and other internal-looking software seems to point to this indeed being some form of iOS beta build. Of course, it might not be iOS 5 at all, but simply a never-released version of iOS 4. All we know for sure is that the video's after the break.
BGR
Those sneaky boys and, well, boys from tinhte.vn aren?t done showing off the test build of iOS 4 they have on their factory white iPhone 4 with 64GB of storage. In this brand new video, we can clearly see Facebook integration into the OS as opposed to being in an app (could it be Facebook contact syncing is finally coming, as reported months ago?) in addition to a new File Sharing option in the settings app. Dragging apps to create folders also shows us a brief look at a redesigned folder UI, though we doubt that?s final by any means since it definitely looks unfinished. Plus, there?s also that spiffy new multitasking Expose-style view ? who could get enough of that? Hit the break for the video.
Jer
After seeing the video, I'm noticing a lot of pre-iOS visual cues so I'm thinking it's either an ooooooold internal build on an even older prototype, or complete bollocks.
Jer
So I went ahead and did a fresh restore to iOS 4.3.2 and stuck *everything* back on. Impressively smooth, much more so than 4.3.1. Not sure why as I didn't think they changed much. Oh well! Happy to have it done.
E2EK1EL
To me; if you don't have the 6GB, updating to 4.3.x is not worth it. Whats also a buzz killer, the new iMovie update only works with the new iOS and on the other hand .... The Safari update is nice though.
Re: The White IP4 Prototype
Could be a prototype build they were testing earlier and I assume it's the same one that was sold in HK briefly for $1300 cdn.
