Google is your best friend; look into the benefits of a jailbroken device and what you can do with it.
Please don't ask about about "you know what"
PS:
You can't jailbreak with Cydia; you've jailbroken with The Dev Team's (Comex's) web base tool and Cydia is the "hackers" appstore. |
I have googled and found out what jailbreaking does (allows me to take advantage of the operating system, etc) but that doesn't tell me how to do that. I've opened the cydia app but I have no idea what to do with it. Exactly how do I take full advantage of my jailbroken iOS?
And what the hell is "you know what"?
I'm so lost. |

Install some theme to start off, since that's the first ting everyone likes to do for some reason.

Just spent 2 hours lastnight online and 1 hour on the phone with AppleCare today, to get the GF's IP4 reg. to AppleCare.
My AppleCare for my IP4 went smooth, but for some reason her AppleCare needed proof of purchase and etc etc etc.
Both were bought online @ a fraction of the retail pricing. |

Ugh. That's annoying. :( Often, the developers that post screenshots include all kinds of other in there with it without actually mentioning what they're using.. Which is super annoying.
I suggest you check out Classica 3 by Dustin Schau, I'm sure it's on Cydia. It's free, and it's probably my favourite icon theme ever if only because it still looks Apple-engineered but really fresh. There should be an iPad version of the theme available! |

I just searched for it on cydia and it says it's for iPhone.
The iPad themes found on cydia are all very ugly. |

Oh man, that's brutal. Maybe you can ask for a refund? i never "bought" anything from Cydia before, can't really give you any solid info if they allow refunds or not. Normally, I can say they don't but your case is diff.
That's not cool they pulled that on you.
Keep exploring with Cydia for the "free" stuff, it does open a whole new world for when you're a noob. :)

I find 99% of all themes ugly, only way you want perfection ... start modding your own icons and combine a few things to get your look.
I wasn't really into theme modding that much, with 450,000 apps ... most theme devs won't be making 90% of those apps and things just doesn't get consistent. It's so much work to get everything unified, especially without Winterboard and placing files by files gets retarded. |

I think I might have solved my problem with the graphite theme, I had to manually change the wallpaper because it didn't change it automatically when I switched themes in winterboard |

Anicons: Animated Settings Toggles - Releasing Soon

ModMyi reported a few weeks back that Dan Zimmerman (@DanZimm), creator of Vibrafications and AppLocket, is working on a new project calledAnicons. Anicons incorporates important settings toggles directly on your SpringBoard for easy access. When you tap and interact with the toggles, they turn components on/off and make special animations to show you what state the particular toggle is in. For toggles such as 3G or WiFi, the button shows what the signal strength is and changes depending on reception and connectivity.

The previous Anicons post mentioned what types of features were already incorporated in the beta that was available. Here is what has been updated:
•A respring icon was added
•The airplane and WiFi icon were moved from his other separate projects into Anicons
•Hide icons from displaying on the SpringBoard via the Anicons settings tab (in Settings.app)
• The icons were re-designed (thanks to Surenix (@iSurenix))
After speaking with Dan today, he stated that Anicons will be submitted to Cydia within the next 24 hours.
When Anicons is available on Cydia, it will cost $1.99. It will be available on all firmwares 4.0+ and on all devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad (including iPad 2))
Name: Anicons
Author: Dan Zimmerman
Price: $1.99
Police Beginning to Adopt iPhone-Based Facial Recognition Device

Police officers may soon be carrying a new identification tool called MORIS that contains an iPhone at the heart of the device.
The Mobile Offender Recognition and Information System includes a retinal scanner and camera to scan suspects and aid in identifying criminals. The iPhone attaches to the device and with everything intact the system weights 12.5 ounces. The MORIS system will replace the current identification procedures which involve taking a picture of the suspect, and downloading it to a computer to run facial recognition software.
Created by BI2 Technologies and using facial recognition software from Animetrics, the small, effective device has made privacy sticklers rather worried. Bernard Melekian, The U.S. Justice Department director of Community Oriented Policing Services, doesn't share the sentiment.
If the purpose is to determine instantly an individual’s identity and determine whether they are wanted or have serious criminal history, that is not only a desirable use, it is an important use. To simply collect information on individuals to add to the database would not in my opinion be a desirable use of the technology. - Melekian The $3,000 device will likely find its way into precincts by the end of the year. Or not, because the device costs $3,000. |

A friend was showing me a cool feature that I didn't know existed...
When in landscape in the video camera, double tap the screen and you'll be shooting in letterbox...
So cool... |
