So if you're like me and many other iPhone FB app users, you'd have noticed that a few days ago there were & for some still are issues with the app. running properly on their smartphone (BlackBerries incl.)

API Glitch Breaks Facebook App For Smartphone Users
When Joe Hewitt quit the Facebook app development team earlier this month, the company's VP of Communications, Elliot Schrage had said that a "great team of engineers" would be replacing Hewitt.
The question of whether the team has lived up to the expectations of their VP has now risen with a key feature to the functioning of the app having laid broken for more than a day.
The primary cause of the issue was not with the app itself, but with a backend platform API that the app on iPhone and other smartphones use. As a result of this, Facebook users on iPhone were shown blank user profile pages. Explaining the issue, Joe Hewitt who responded to TechCrunch's article on the issue says,
"The FB API has glitches from time to time which break not just the iPhone app, but every app that builds on it, from Blackberry to Seesmic"
Clearly, this is something outside the purview of the app development team. However, the blame is on Facebook in not having identified the issue quick enough. The broken API was detected after close to 24 hours. Also, though broken APIs are a common occurence with web applications, this particular episode has indirectly caused a bit of embarassment to Apple coming pretty close after Joe Hewitt quit Facebook's app development team citing Apple's app approval policies as the reason.
The issue has apparently been fixed now and the app has been working fine at our end. However we would like to hear from our readers if they have been facing any issue still.

Am I the only one that has an iPhone, tosses it around, drops it on driveways, decks, brings it in the bathroom when having a shower to play music, and I still haven't exchanged it and it works great?
lol, fack

4iThumbs overlay adds a tactile keyboard to your iPhone... sorta
For the people who just need to feel the keys when they type, this may or may not help lol. This screen overlay has clear keys, so you can still see the screen behind them, and it doubles as a screen protector. It's also easily removable. If you're text crazy and can't deal with the touch screen, this may be a solution.
With the 4iThumbs, you can see the full screen, as usual. You can remove the keypad as many (for game playing). 4iThumbs can be stored on the back of your iPhone and comes in both standard and landscape modes.
4iThumbs is custom designed for the iPhone. It is the strongest screen protector on the market and reduces glare. It adds virtually no weight or dimension to the iPhone, and is virtually undetectable except for its feel. Our video Will explain how to easily attach it to your phone.
With the 4iThumbs you will finally feel the iPhone keypad. Within minutes, you will type faster and more accurately. You can even type without looking! If you practice for thirty minutes you will get maximum results.

sikkk. Motorola DROID does Times Square on Black Friday

Google Search by voice: Now in Times Square!
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 3:15 PM
If you've been to Times Square in New York City over the past couple weeks, on any day from 12:30-2:00pm or 6:30-8:00pm, you may have noticed that Google Search by voice is powering Times Square's largest combined displays -- the Reuters Sign and the NASDAQ sign. Anyone can call 888-376-4336 and say the name of a business or a location that they want to search for, like "museum of modern art" or "pizza". Then, the query and local search results from Google will appear on one of the two electronic billboards. This is all part of Verizon's "Droid Does" campaign and has been developed in partnership with Reuters and R/GA, a digital advertising agency.
On Black Friday, Times Square's gigantic interactive search-by-voice demo will be running for 20 hours straight. So if you're in the area and have a chance to take a break from your shopping, or if you want to see your next shopping destination displayed on a Google map on the huge signs, give the demo a try and let us know what you think. And for those of you that aren't in Manhattan on that day, you can still watch the action HERE via WEBCAM.
I flew out to New York last week to try it myself. R/GA gave me a behind-the-scenes tour of the setup, and I was impressed by how they pulled this off. A caller's voice is sent through the phone system, directly into a small farm of real Droids running voice search that are connected to the big outdoor electronic displays! R/GA developers made use of the Android voice recognition API just like any Android developer can.
It's been quite a ride for the search by voice team -- from launching on the iPhone about a year ago, to our launches on BlackBerry and Android, and on S60 in Mandarin Chinese, to powering billboards in Times Square. We're thankful for the chance to work on technology that excites us and that can help more of you search faster and more easily on your phone. And we hope you've been noticing the ongoing improvements in the accuracy of our voice recognition. We can't wait to show you what we have in store for next year.
