Video: Rogers goes live with LTE in Ottawa
Rogers said they’ll be the first in Canada to deploy Long Term Evolution (LTE) and it looks like it might be true. Ottawa will be first to lit up with LTE this summer and calling it “Beyond4G”. Other cities to follow this by the end of this year will be Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, but no confirmed date has been announced. A glimmer of hope came a couple weeks back when Rogers employees started their training on LTE, but today I’m on deck in Ottawa at a Rogers LTE event to witness the blazing fast speeds. Peak download speeds are capable of reaching up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds could hit 70 Mbps.
The first LTE product that will be released is the Sierra Wireless Rocket Stick (AirCard 313U) for $169.99 no term and $79.99 on a 3-year.
Apparently we’ll be hopping aboard the bus for an LTE experience on the move, streaming video etc… We’ll post updates, pics and videos as the event unfolds.
Update: Ottawa is now live and at the event Rob Bruce, President of Rogers stated that Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal will follow and go live in the fall, then 21 other locations by the end of 2012. As for coverage in teh Ottawa area: “Arnprior, Ontario in the west to Orléans, Ontario in the east and includes the Hull and Gatineau regions of Quebec”. In addition, probably the best news is that LTE smartphones from both Samsung and HTC will be launching later this year. The Speed test will be on the bus in a real world experience. Video after the break…
Update #2: Coverage Map is now live on the Rogers LTE site (see below) and during the Q&A Rob Bruce stated the following flex pricing for the LTE internet stick:
1.5GB: $45
3GB: $60
6GB: $75
9GB: $90
Each additional GB after the 9 mark is $10
Apple to patch iPhone, iPad security hole
Apple has promised to patch a security hole found in the iPhone and iPad following a report published by Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security. Reportedly, a PDF security hole could allow hackers to gain unauthorized access to personal data — such as messages and passwords — stored on an iPhone or iPad and could “infect the mobile device with malware without the user’s knowledge.” Apple’s PR team was quick to respond to the allegations. “[Apple is] aware of this reported issue and developing a fix that will be available to customers in an upcoming software update,” Bethan Lloyd, an Apple spokesperson told AFP on Thursday. Apple has not yet confirmed when it will push out the security update.

My dumb sister got a bold on contract because they wouldn't give her an iPhone. They assumed she wanted the 4 and wouldn't discount it. I told her she had to specify 3GS. Now her 2 week old crackberry stopped working. Lol

Lol.
Now I have to call them and convince them to give her the 3GS. I'll pay the 50 difference for her.

ShapeWritter was made before Swipe
LightsOut
So I was given Apple TV as a gift this weekend. I really don't need it but I'm considering jailbreaking it just to mess around with.
Anyone done this? What are the main advantages to jailbreaking Apple TV anyways? I've seen a few patches but they just seem to add a little bit of functionality, nothing too impressive.
Anyway I can get *cough* free *cough* access to netflix?
