I posted my carrier name a few weeks ago on here, but no one ever guessed it lol
Wow, you should unfriend those untrusted "friends" :)
You're the only US user in this thread, so guessing your new carrier would be irrelevant to us :p

Onavo Helps You Save Money By Compressing iPhone’s Data Usage
Folks at Onavo have released an iPhone app on the App Store couple of days back, which claims to save up to 80% on your data plans and save you money on data usage.
It does this by compressing your iPhone’s data stream in the background by connecting your iPhone to their cloud-based technology, dubbed the “magical shrinking machine”.
Onavo explains how their app works:
Onavo’s app connects your iPhone to our cloud-based technology, dubbed the “magical shrinking machine”. It’s totally seamless – once you install it you can go back to using your phone as before. In the background, your data usage from all apps is compressed so that you get more bang for your buck, doubling and even tripling your data plan.
TechCrunch’s Roi Carthy who has been using this app for a few weeks reports that it works quite well:
The techies among you are asking yourself whether there’s any slow-down in data speed. I’ve been using the app for a few weeks and I have perceived no noticeable slow-down.[..]
[..] I’m currently away on business in San Francisco (I’m based out of Israel) and in the past two days alone I’ve saved 11.32MB, and I still have four nights to go. Most of my savings were with Maps on iPhone, where Onavo saved me 75%, or 8.87MB of 11.80MB. Onavo also saved me 64% surfing the Web, and 12% on email.
You also don’t need to worry about impact on battery life as the compression is done on the server-side.
Onava is targeting travellers to help them reduce data usage while travelling to avoid the expensive data usage charges while roaming. It should also be useful app for users who are not on unlimited data plan. The app also gives users visibility on how much data each app uses, which should be quite handy.
You can checkout the introductory video of the app below:
Onavo hasn’t explained how it plans to make money as the iPhone app is available for free in the App Store or how it plans to use the data that it is compressed on their servers, which are probably the only concerns.
So if you’re not worried about the privacy aspects of your data, it is a must-have app. We wonder why it has taken so long for someone to release such an app, so kudos to the Onavo team.
You can download it from the App Store using this iTunes link.
Please note Onava’s app currently works only on the iPhone (not on the iPad or iPod Touch) and is available for users who use official iPhone carriers, Verizon is not yet supported. You can checkout the list of carriers here. We’re not sure what’s the technical reason behind it.
As always, please let us know how it goes if you plan to check it out.

We 3GS users don't have to worry about that since Apple doesn't seem to support us anymore. Hmmm... maybe an app though jailbraking will resolve this problem.

you still haven't done this yet?
FOR 3GS USERS:
1.) Go into the Rogers, Bell, Virgin Mobile, Best Buy or Apple store to use the newer devices.
2.) Go to Settings/Mail/MobileMe
3.) Click "Add Account".
4.) Enter your Apple ID info. Must have an account with Apple ID in order for this to work.
5.) After registering with MobileMe for free, delete your account off of the store's iPhone 4, iPad, or iPod Touch.
6.) Go home to set up your Find My iPhone application via me(.)com and you're all set!

iPhone gets its first browser-based app store (for unsanctioned apps)
If you’ve jailbroken your iOS device in order to enjoy wonderful apps Apple banned from the App Store, know you will lose them each time you upgrade to a newer firmware because iTunes doesn’t sync them by default. That’s why for many jailbreakers a firmware upgrade usually entails a tedious process of re-downloading and re-installing all their Cyida apps. Luckily, there’s an app for that._Called xBackup, it’s an effective way to backup and restore your jailbroken apps literally with a tap. As a result, firmware updates are a breeze with this nifty app…
First, run xBackup and tap Backup prior to updating your device to a newer iOS version. Then, connect with iTunes and perform a sync. You can now apply a new firmware because iTunes has a copy of your jailbroken apps in a backup file.
When you are done installing the latest firmware, re-jailbreak it, download xBackup via the Cydia Store, run it and tap the Restore button._That’s all there’s to it, really.
xBackup is a $1.50 download from the Cydia Store and it’s hosted in the BigBoss repository.

iOS 4.3.3 Coming ...
One of our Apple sources has just informed us that Apple isn’t wasting anytime fixing the infamous location tracking issue in the iPhone and other iOS devices — it’s going to be addressed in an update within the next two weeks, possibly sooner, in iOS version 4.3.3. We’ve been sent the OS and while we haven’t loaded it on our iPhone just yet, here is what we have been told it will address:
The update will no longer back up the location database to iTunes.
The size of the location database will be reduced.
The location database will be deleted entirely when Location Services are turned off.
Battery life improvements.
iPod bug fixes.
That’s all we have for now but stay tuned for more!

Back up and restore your jailbroken apps with xBackup
Jailbreakers, rejoice. Soon a sensible way of downloading unsanctioned apps will arrive, the one which won’t require a storefront app like the Cydia Store or Apple’s App Store. The iPhone Download blog points out that Infini Dev Team (no association with the iPhone Dev-team whatsoever) is working on an alternative store dubbed Lima.
It will be 100 percent browser-based so you will simply fire up Safari and head to a store URL to browse, download and install your favorite apps and themes. It’s gonna be just like Android Market or Amazon Appstore for Android, which both allow for browser-based software discovery and installation. Lima is still work in progress, but should be available “soon”, developers say. Check it out in a video after the break.

Maybe I'm missing something - what do they claim it does different from Cydia, other than run in a browser?
Cydia's always been rock-solid for me so I don't know what they're trying to accomplish? :conf:

RIM looks to expand BES services to Android, iOS devices
Earlier today, Research In Motion announced its intentions to bring its BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) its mobile device security and administration services to both Android and iOS. Through its acquisition of ubitexx, the Canadian company is looking to expand the portfolio of mobile devices its BES solution supports. “The single web-based console is being designed to provide IT administrators with a simple and efficient way to distribute software and manage policies, inventory, security and services for BlackBerry devices, as well as other mobile devices,” reads the press release. “IT administrators will be able to manage devices over-the-air, including activating devices, distributing software and applications, locking or wiping devices, enforcing and resetting device passwords, setting IT policies, and managing optional mobile applications for end users. Certain features are expected to remain exclusive to BlackBerry devices because such capabilities are built into the design of a device’s operating system.” The new solution should be available “later this year.” Hit the jump for the full release.
RIM Announces Multi-Platform BlackBerry Enterprise Solution for Smartphones and Tablets
Device Management Solution to Provide Security, Management, and Control of BlackBerry Devices, Plus Secure Management for Other Mobile Devices
Waterloo, ON – Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM, TSX: RIM) is announcing today plans for a multi-platform BlackBerry Enterprise Solution for managing and securing mobile devices for enterprises and government organizations. The solution will make available the market-leading management, security and controls of BlackBerry® Enterprise Server and BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express for BlackBerry® devices plus, through RIM’s pending acquisition of ubitexx (creator of the ubi-Suite device management solution), the solution is expected to incorporate secure device management for Android and iOS based devices and tablets, all managed from a single web-based console.
“The multi-platform BlackBerry Enterprise Solution is designed to address a growing market and respond to requests from enterprise customers who want a secure multi-platform device management solution from a company that already delivers the gold standard for enterprise mobility,” said Peter Devenyi, Vice President, Communications Platform Group at Research In Motion. “We recognize the opportunity to continue leading in the enterprise market by providing customers with a common platform to help simplify the management of a variety of mobile devices.”
The single web-based console is being designed to provide IT administrators with a simple and efficient way to distribute software and manage policies, inventory, security and services for BlackBerry devices, as well as other mobile devices. IT administrators will be able to manage devices over-the-air, including activating devices, distributing software and applications, locking or wiping devices, enforcing and resetting device passwords, setting IT policies, and managing optional mobile applications for end users. Certain features are expected to remain exclusive to BlackBerry devices because such capabilities are built into the design of a device’s operating system. Examples include RIM’s industry-leading push technology, network and data usage efficiency, behind-the-firewall access to enterprise applications and systems, and many of the over 550 IT policies available through BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The recently-released BlackBerry® BalanceTM technology (see separate press release issued today), which supports the use of a single smartphone for both work and personal purposes without compromising thesecurity of corporate content or the privacy of personal content, will also remain exclusive to BlackBerry devices.
Overall, as is largely understood in the enterprise market today, organizations can expect a range of security, manageability and controls depending on different device platform capabilities, with some devices further limited by the design of their operating system.
The multi-platform BlackBerry Enterprise Solution will be comprised of optional architectural components based on the configuration of an organization’s mobile deployment and their operational needs. Optional components will include BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express for BlackBerry devices, and a separate, secure device management server for Android and iOS devices (based on the foundation of ubi-Suite from ubitexx). It will be possible to deploy multiple components in a virtualized environment on a single server.
Note: Registration for a product preview of the ubitexx solution is open today at www.ubitexx.com/preview.
The multi-platform BlackBerry Enterprise Solution is planned for general availability later this year.
