IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE BACK INTO A 3GS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
Dont get me wrong, i am thankful for my 2G back up that I used since i got jacked/lost my old 3GS in September, but i MISS the 3G speeds, FAST MMS, true GPS, and most importantly the extra ram and processor speed. I dont even know how many times my 2G would lock up on me, and make me stress the f@ck out haha.
Sorry, just had to vent.

Also, if your going to apple for warranty don't just swap the headphone and connection water sensors peel and change the ones on the board too and if your also swaping the screen, super glue the numbers off the broken iphone screen connection tab and put them on the new one. I didn't think they were going to open up the iphone, but they did. So i looked like a dumb ass in one apple store, but i got the phone at another store after a little modifying. :toothless |
Wow that's some serious dude. Thanks for posting it. |

That Swiss jailbreak looks so fake, but I hope it isn't! I've finally found an app which needs 3.1.3 that I want to install (Instapaper Pro) and that firmware spoof on Cydia messed my phone up pretty good. |
, thanks for posting that up. I removed the 3.1.3 spoof once Cydia removed it. Had a feeling something was up with it. |

Ya it was a pain in the ass, but i wanted one ever since mine got jacked/i lost it.
My friend gave me his 3GS but it was water damaged, and had a cracked screen. I swapped the screen and pulled the pink water sensors for the head jack and the bottom under the connector. The screen had a different sticker on top of the connection where it hooks up to the board, there are also 2 water sensors on the board i didnt bother changing.
Well at the first apple store, they called me out. They said it had been dropped in water because the sensors inside were pink. I didn't know that they were going to open up the phone. They also said it had been "tampered" with, they didnt say more then that but i realized it was the sticker on the screen connection.
Then i raced home (setup another genius appointment at another apple store), pulled it apart. Super glued the old "numbered" sticker over the connection and also glued on 2 new dots that i made with gimp that were laminated with clear tape to make them look like the OEM shiny ones.
They took it to the back, opened it up. Came back up to me. They said it had been tampered with because the sensors didnt look like OEM ones (i rushed it so it wasnt the best i could have done). But since it was still under warranty they would give me a new one. SCORE!
Trial and error but i finally got it, i am saving my upgrade for the next iPhone.

I've seen the pics of the two indicators inside of the screen on the web.
I have yet to take a part an iPhone completely. Watching the dismanteling videos, seems like a lot of work compaired to Palm Treo 680.
No comment about your moding for a replacement unit lol In the past they never took the unit apart to check the other two indicators inside, but now with the new method of lifting the screen ... it takes 3 mins do it. |

Ya it onlys takes 2 mins to take it apart.
VERY simple to take apart. 2G's are way harder to take apart, and sometimes a LOT harder.
The screen was surprisingly easy to swap out, well compared to the 2G that is. |

Don’t worry, that wasn’t the new iPhone…

Engadget posted photos of the what was said to possibly be an early prototype / actual version of the next generation iPhone last night, and while we assumed their story was legit, we figured the unit was just totally janky and most likely a software testing mule. MacRumors now confirms that the device in question is just a Japanese knock off.
Thank. Heavens.

(I had a fishy feeling from the pics I posted it, since it had a removalable batt cover. Let's not post anymore "could" be the next iPhone pics pls, especailly you Robbie LOL):toothless
Now Engadget claims it's same prototype that was in the iPad testing pic. I hope it's a fake pic, this unit seems chunky and Apple has been moving away from that look. |

I hope I'm right behind ya.
So I got my 3GS I was waiting for since last week that I got for $200. SO when I got it, I found our it's locked to FIDO. FML. I'll be stuck with my 2G for a little while longer.
It seems to work fine, as it asks for a SIM chip and can be used as a 911 phone. I put in my Rogers chip, and it asks me to connect to iTunes
Since I got it via an intermediary, I could not see it with a Fido chip in it to she what version the OS and baseband is.
I have a feeling I'll be facing long hours trying to figure this one out... Anyone can tell me where to start? |

So its activated or no? If not, Get a WORKING fido SIM card from a friend, then activate the device with the fido chip in it with iTunes.
Then jailbreak it with redsn0w, if you need the ipsw for redsn0w, go here http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/iphone-downloads/
Then unlock it with blacksnow from cydia (if your baseband will allow you to)
If you cant unlock it, because of baseband, wait for just a bit. Its comming soon.
Why would it ask you to connect to itunes when you put a rogers sim? Odd, it usually only asks that when its not activated, which wont even let you use the phone at all. All you can do is make an emergency call with it. If this is your situation, follow the first step.
Good luck :) |

To start, get a Fido Sim
If the unit forces you to restore w/ 3.1.3 ... your out of luck for a while. And of course, you find out the unit is already @ 3.1.3 to begin with.
How come you didn't check it before you plug it into your computer? |

He might be lucky and be able to restore it to something previous to 3.13 by altering that text file that itunes uses to talk to the servers with, making it think everything is cool. I cant find the link, but when you helped me a few months ago, it was your suggestion to try.
Remember what Im talking about? |

Without having access to his ECID or SHSH files, there's nothing he can do. It's like everyone who got an 3GS recently, thats out of the box 3.1.3.
Honestly, I've never seen any person have so much problems with the iPhones before. This happens and that happens ... he should just go legit. |
