For those of you that dont know what UMA is, it's basically a service that will connect to the Mobile Network over your WiFi connection instead of the Rogers Cell tower. So basically you can talk in your basement and still have a crystal clear connection, oh and did I mention that whenever you're connected to a WiFi hotspot you're considered in your local area code when placing and recieving calls. Hello! Free long distance! F#@k new iPhone software. lol

did you get this to work? I'm on Fido rite now using a BB Bold 9000 .. very tempted to try..

Yea I'm connected to the Rogers UMA server. You can see the pic I posted. Unfortunately the UMA profile (that comes with certificates) was given to me by my company. So I dont actually know if its on a Rogers 'Talkspot' plan or not. And I'm not 100% sure how Rogers bills that exactly. All I've heard is that whenever you're connected to WiFi anywhere, you're in your local zone. But its pretty much VoiP, it would be stupid if they reamed you, which is entirely possible, knowing Rogers.

I've not jailbroken yet and I'm curious what all the fuss is about, but seems right now with the current update it's pretty complicated (for a Mac user).

Thoughts, or should I just wait a bit until Quickpwn get their together?

The apps are not even the best part, because you can get so many from the actual app store. IMO the best part about jailbreaking is actually the visual costomization. New spring board, dialer themes, icons, the works. You can make it look and feel like a totally different device while still keeping the speed and stability up.

Also, having 'categories' (folders) is awesome too, if you have mad games and apps like I do. This way everything stays nice and neatly organized.

Just found this on Cydia lastnight ....

-Weathericon
This turns your normal Weather icon to display the LIVE temp.

-LiveClock
This turns your clock icon, A LIVE ... it's so freaky, the second hands is actually moving! Go into your world clock and your gonna see all of them move.

Video Recorder 3G

Dude, cut the attitude & childish pointing the finger crapp. You should be here helping ppl.

The fact is, the iPhone is not so great in OEM state. That's why I was like that too.

It took you awhile jailbreak and you had the 1st gen iphone oem state for the longest time.

Now things are totally diff.

A palm? How in long ago was that!? I haven't had a palm for 5 years, maybe you mean my dell? My dell x51v was sick, still has better hardware specs than the iphone, to this day. The iphone still has a few things that I hate, no memory card slot, no real keyboard, and the biggest one, NO REMOVABLE battery!!!!! Best thing about the iphone is definitely the UI, no doubt about it, unmatched, except again they copied a lot from Palm.

Honestly, I actually got one because work paid for the phone, and the plan, and they told me to get it, because everybody here has them and macs.

God I miss my old Palm Zire 71.

Okay here is something that will change your life.

Call your Rogers or Fido provider if you have a WiFi BlackBerry and get them to sign you up for UMA (TalkSpot or Uno), but don't get the plan. Just tell them you want to UMA features without the plan (ie. they charge you like over EDGE, but its over WiFi).

oh, and drop that useless iPhone.

Any more evidence that this works? This might make me break down and buy a Blackberry finally.

People still use Hotmail?

Also, Nokia E71 supremacy - still clinging to this lovely piece of kit.

NEW IPHONE???

guys.. check this out.. new iphone might be out in june... but only a rumour

Everyone knows it's coming out in July. The prototypes are being spotted on the net & all there're all coming from San Fran region.

Rumors says it could be a QuarCore GPU with some crazy video chip (which apple bought some graphic chip company just for it) & with video calling. It's all specilations right now, if indeed these are the specs then I'll get an upgrade & get my Palm Pre.

Personaly don't care about rumors. Until it's fully rolled out & won't be getting one until the 2nd run of production if the specs are that nice.
