Yeah right ....
Why is Rogers pushing us to get 3.1? Got a txt and there's a recorded MSG when you call in. This update has caused so many batt damage and bricking units. |
Is it true that Apple removed tethering with the 3.1 update? |

Yes sir, mainly for regions that don't offer it ... like AT&T. This was the main reason for this update, removal of tethering & MMS for carriers that aren't ready for it.
Canada is ok for tethering and mms'ing |

Just to be clear on the 'PUSH' notifications. As I found out, PUSH notifications are only available to phones/units that are not unlocked and using a different carriers SIM card. Jailbroken is fine, but the phone has to be Fido phone - Fido SIM, or Rogers phone - Rogers SIM in order for the PUSH notifications to work.
Otherwise you end up with an error msg such as this one, that I got:

Yup Hackactivated units will have a conflict with Push.
Sunny, I just thought of something ... Why don't you borrow a friend's Rogers sim, plug it in and restore your unit and let iTunes activated with that Rogers sim? |

| I have my emails set to pull, as I am wifi-only for data. Checks my 3 email accounts when I am connected and pulls each 1/2 hour after if still connected. good enough for me |

Starting at 2.0, the iPhone always had Push Email ... the main factor was, if you had access to an exchange server and most ppl would had to pay for it.
Push Email Services I used in the past:
PushMail (Now cost $4.99 a month, was free)
Yahoo (Pushed "sometimes")
PushMail app gives you access to Push Notifacations on any email that can be forwarded ... same IMO, all you need to know when in real time has the email arrived.
Tonight - The Google servers are swamped with users signing up, testing and etc ... knowing Google, it will be iron'ed out within the next few days. |

Right now my phone is from Fido but my SIM is a Roger's one. Do you mean use one of my peep's Fido SIM to restore and activate it with the FIDO SIM?
Won't it lock the phone? |

No, use 3.0.1 ... not 3.1
ANYWAYS:
Solved your problem NIGGA!
" If you have an AT&T (in this case, FIDO) sim lying around (activated or not), you can try this method to get push working on iPhone 3G’s
Tip: if you SSH to /var/root/Library/Lockdown/activation_records and delete wildcard_record.plist, the next time you reboot your phone, it will ask for activation again, thus allowing you to easily put in an AT&T (in this case, FIDO) sim and activate with iTunes open – this should allow you to skip the restore and re-jailbreaking steps if you already are in that state." |
