Oh good. I plugged my phone cable to my work laptop a couple months ago, and had it working for a few minutes while Rogers was working on the podium by the street (no cable internet). I don't recall a charge on my bill tho, but was wondering about it in case the need happened again.
Regarding usage since I went up from 512MB to 6GB a month... I have been using 1GB a month on average. Waze gps uses up a lot of data, and it's great to not care. |
yeah, my usage is usually around 1GB too. But I don't download or stream anything, just email and internet.
I heard the 6GB promo is going to stop soon too, anyone know about that? I assumed you had till you ended your contract but apparently not... |

They aren't removing the 6GB plan, even if you're on or off contract ... you signed for it and they can't change it.
It's like my Sympatico unlimited plan, never been on a contract with them and they can't change it on me. |

Technically yes, they can tell if you're on MyWi, data transfers while tethering uses 3x more bandwidth in a single load.
If everyone did the MyWi method they will be charging or deactivate that type of usage.
Remember, not everyone is willing to jailbreak anymore. The latest iOS ver covers 90% of the limitations we had with the iPhones.
Also, taking the jailbreak and unlock route seems to be holding the users back 1-2 previous vers of the iOS and to me it's not worth it. |
Ya... but it seems that most of the updates aren't enough to jump on the "upgrade" bandwagon so fast. Skipping one or two won't be noticed by most ppl, jailbreak or not. |

3GS wise it's iffy to upgrade to 4.2 & 4.2.1, but for the IP4, tons of improvements and the free MobileMe "Find My iPhone" is damn worth it. |

SBSettings and MyWi are worth waiting for the 4.2.1 jailbreak. I really want the free find my iphone tho. |

If I upgrade phones and I decide to stay with Apple, then I'll wait for the I5. The I4 is not a "leaps and bounds" improvement for me to bother. I5 or 6 won't be either, but hardware changes might be enough to prompt me. |

4.2.1 Jailbreak is here, I've been using it for ages now. Rock solid. |

It's beta tester ver which is not stable, B1 - B6 had loads of problems and features diabled. This is why Dev Team confirmed it's not for public use and testers only.
B7 will most likely be the final build, maybe.

Pod2g has announced that he's found another untethered jailbreak vulnerability.
Hey, another untethered vulnerability found ! :-)
Look at the registers, all are controllable :-)
This is excellent news for jailbreakers many of which have been without an untethered jailbreak for quite some time.
Both comex and the Chronic Dev-Team have untethered jailbreaks in the works. The Chronic Dev-Team recently demonstrated theirs and plans to release it soon.
If you have your iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved and need to untether you can follow this Mac tutorial. An upcoming update to redsn0w will bring support for iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs and Windows. |

I jailbroke using 0.9.7 Beta 6, and everything is up and running (including Skype and Bluetooth functions). I run a load of MobileSubstrate extensions and install / uninstall a bunch of junk almost daily and as of yet, not a SINGLE hiccup.
The reason they're telling people it's for testers only is because they're using a patched variant of the iOS 4.2b3 kernel for the untether (as of right now), something legally only available to developers. The "public" version will incorporate 4.1 hashes, something Apple has made public. It's simply a matter of keeping yourself out of legal hot water. |

| quote: | This has to be one of the coolest iPhone mods we’ve seen.
One enterprising user has taken off the front and back glass panels of his iPhone 4 and converted them into clear panels by removing the paint using a paint thinner.
As you will see from the images after the break, the results are quite amazing as you can see the insides of the iPhone 4, which surprisingly look quite good.
There is some debate whether the mod was achieved with a paint thinner or clear case mod kit for iPhone 4.
You can admire the mod in the photos below: |

Any word on a untethered 4.2.1 JB? I'm guessing that dev team is waiting for 4.3 to be released?
I have a lovely ATV2 waiting to be jailbroken to run XBMC :) |
