All devices need a reboot from time to time. |
Yes, my issue is with the definition of "time". The Blackberry issue doesn't surprise me at all - they've become such garbage lately, I was watching two people at work having fits and saying they were ready to throw them out the window. And my Treo 650 almost never needed rebooting until very recently (now it's horrible, that's why I want a new phone).
But...

I'm sorry, but this is utter crap. You're talking like the phone is a wind-up toy and every now and then you have to crank it. Operating systems recycle resources when an app no longer needs them. You don't just run out for no reason. If resources aren't being reclaimed then it's because something you're running is really buggy. Let me be crystal clear about this: there is no other reason to require an unplanned reboot.
Planned is different, like if you need to update critical system files; that's not what we're talking about here.
What you're saying makes sense for battery life, but not reboots. |

The reboot issue is way over blown (for the iPhone). I have had my unit for 3 weeks now, and only rebooted twice, both for after massive updates, and install sessions. It works just fine, having not rebooted for a week.
It does slow down after jailbreaking it, and installing more apps, that is certainly true. I have found that it is a touch less responsive, and that 'instant' feeling of feedback from the device has been compromised. Since there is so much more functionality, i will take that trade off, quite willingly.
My windows mobile device needed rebooting every 3 hours, that is for sure. POS. No matter how beautiful the hardware, windows mobile just turns it into a steaming pile of buggy crap. |

I’ve noticed after all these years; you make no sense in any reply of any subject you’ve posted on TA. Your speculations are not valid and have no proven facts to back up anything you say at all. There just your opinions … I have never seen anyone agreeing with you at all.
I suggest you to do some research before you continue posting your nonsense in the future.
Don’t bother replying, I won’t be reading it.
PS.
Each reboot drains more battery life to boot the system, give it a try when your battery is @ 0% on your 650, you won’t even get it passed the Palm logo. |

Um, okay, I design and develop software for a living. I *am* the "research" here. But go ahead and ask any of the CS/CEng students or programmers here if computers just inexplicably drain resources for no particular reason and how any of that could possibly depend on factors like screen resolution. I guarantee you you'll get the exact same response.
Feel free not to read my replies. I'm not replying for your benefit anyway, I'm replying so other people don't come in here and read this utter crap thinking it's normal to have to reboot a computer, phone, or anything else every 3 hours. It's an electronic device, not a freaking etch-a-sketch.
You clearly know a lot about phones and gadgets but don't pretend that you actually know anything about how they work. |

OMG LMAO x 1000000
I just realize you just got burned from your own moronic actions.
My Treo 600, 650 & 680 all work perfectly fine all these years, the reason why your 650 died ... You never took care of it & rebooted it often. The Palm OS needed to flush the DBCACHE memory and that's why it crashes & freezes so often.
Here how you can restore your Treo & make it even faster then ever.
1-format your sd card
2-backup your contacts, memo & calander
3-hard resest your treo & start as a new user
4-go find a custom firmware with real player, quick tour & all that junk removed
5-load it to sd card & plug in your ac charger
6-the flashing begins & at the end you'll see the palm logo apear on & off 6x
7-import all your contact, memo & calander info back in
8-reinstall all your apps & watch how much faster it is now, compaired the day you got it.
I even use an app called Flush it, to flush the DBCACHE upon exit of certain apps like TomTom & Garmin and since then (with the help of rebooting) the Treos have never crashed.
But hey, what do I know right? |

Why not just keep all your contacts, do absolutely nothing except charge the device every night, and keep on doing this for 3 years?
and reboot only when
a) new software was installed
b) you dropped the device and the battery flew |

+1
absolutely no way a device with a higher resolution screen can drain resources or cause a memory leak requiring constant rebooting... |
