RIM’s app store shamelessly dubbed App World; developer site goes live tonight (lastnight)

It looks like RIM is finally taking a big step toward making its on-device app portal a reality. The developer site, blackberry.com/appworld, is set to go live at 10:00 pm EST and end-users will also be able to sign up for alerts at that time. As for the official name… App World. Yep, it’s fairly obvious that the App Store model works and competitors aren’t even bothering with trying to distinguish their offerings from the godfather. In fact by shamelessly copying the name of Apple’s portal, RIM is likely (and wisely) hoping potential customers immediately make the connection with the successful Apple shop and dive right in. So there you have it folks — the on-device App World portal will likely launch to users fairly soon so get those credit cards ready, recession be damned.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Rinspeed may like to think outside the box, but its concept cars always utilise the skills and technology of several key suppliers and the iChange is no different. Saying that, lithium-ion battery power and solar panels in the roof are not exactly groundbreaking ideas, though they're hardly widespread as yet. Gadget fiends will however, particularly love the Apple iPhone controlled 'ignition' and the phone can be used to control other functions too.

Safari is “easiest to hack” says top hacker

Charlie Miller is a security researcher (fancy name for professional hacker) who is considered by some to be one of the best in the world. In a competition last year, Miller won the top prize of 10,000 dollars by hacking into a Macbook Air via Safari. This year, Miller confidently states that Safari will be the first to fall. Not only that, but he plans on attacking Safari Mobile as well. Apple has always used the fact that there are less hackers and malicious code written for their computers as a selling point. But now that Apple is gaining world wide attention, perhaps they will attract hackers from around the world. On a side note, Miller was one of the first people to discover a vulnerability in the Safari Mobile app shortly after the iPhone’s 2007 launch. |

Hands on review of TetherBerry

Thanks to the folks at TetherBerry, we have been putting its latest software solution for BlackBerry tethering through the paces over the past week or so in preparation for today’s official launch. For those unfamiliar with the product, TetherBerry allows you to use your BlackBerry to access the Internet from your computer anywhere you have a cellular signal. It uses the data connection on your handset and does so without incurring additional tethering fees imposed by your wireless carrier. Now that you know what it does, let’s get on with the review and see if TetherBerry is indeed a viable on-the-go mobile tethering solution. |

Spare battery? Put your Bold on 2G mode only since your using it for wifi only. Your batt life will last 3x more almost. |

iPhone prototype surfaces on eBay, aims to fetch a pretty penny

Okay, so we'll go ahead and crush a few dreams up front -- there's nothing here that proves this isn't some funky KIRF iPhone or just an ad hoc or jailbroken app making things look completely funkadelic. Now that our skepticism is out in the open, we'll be honest and say we really, really hope this is legitimate. According to the eBay description, this here iPhone prototype was constructed a few months prior to the real iPhone's release, and it actually powers on, makes calls and receives SMSs. It sports a totally beta plastic matte screen, and the software is obviously pre-release. Oh, and the best part? The auction winner also scores a second beta phone that won't turn on (yet), but we're sure the right tweaker could fix it up into the most amazing secondary phone the world has ever seen. Forget all that bad economic news you've been hearing -- you best bring the bring the bank if you're thinking seriously about claiming this.

I've never bought from them before,
but all of the popular blogs (crackberry, berryreview) always products from cnn.cn
So I believe they are reliable.
