WTFBBQ! This cant be true.... how useless is this phone if thats the bloody case...!!
Must be a defective unit or something... non?
E2EK1EL
Might be a software bug, might be the first batch of defects (like the yellow dots on the screens) or who knows .... first batch always has minor problems.
We'll just have to wait and see.
Watch the keynote and the IP4 didn't have any signal lost during the presentation , it was running on the AT&T network as normal and everyone was holding it normally (like a phone)
Who knows ....

Further to what was already mentioned....

Okay, so today is not the best day for iPhone 4 news. Early iPhone 4 users have had a field day examining their devices from head to toe (like this iPhone 4 unboxing). So far, the following issues have been reported:
* Discoloration On iPhone 4 Retina Display
* Scratches Appear On The Back Of iPhone 4
…and now, the latest is reception issues when you HOLD the iPhone 4. Yes, take a look at the following video and watch the AT&T signal bars decrease as this user holds the iPhone 4 in his hands. Not sure if everybody is experiencing this, but the video sorta speaks for itself:
What do you think? The reason for the signal drop could be AT&T or maybe there’s something tricking us in the video. If there are signal issues, an iOS firmware update could definitely fix it.
If that was my iPhone 4, I’d be flabbergasted. The engineering involved with implementing the antennas on the outside is genius. However, can our hands really decrease signals that quickly?

I just got my first Rogers carrier update prompt...
Hit not now by mistake but will accept next time...

I have 3G iphone on 3.1.3. I can use redsnow to jailbreak it and everything will work perfect like 3.1.3.
Does appsync 3.1 still work?
Thanks
I ran redsn0w to jailbreak iOS4. Works fine. :)
AppSync 3.1 does not work. AppSync 4 does however, and it's on the same repo. :)

I'm seeing a story being thrown around saying that Apple is "stealing" FaceTime information and users are being "locked down" to carriers here; This is a great example of how gullible people can be when dealing with an "insider" as the article is strewn with half-truths and scare-mongering.
Hundreds of people arguably much more clever than Apple itself have picked the ever-loving-bejesus out of iOS4 and there has been absolutely nothing to suggest that there's a capability to remotely lock down someone's iPhone and the FaceTime location and security claims are downright laughable.

Update: As a number of readers have pointed out, there seems to be an issue with how many bars are displayed on screen -- perhaps even a correlation to how it's being held in the hand. According to Walt Mossberg's review, Apple has acknowledged the issue as something that has to do with "the way the bars are presented, not the actual ability to make a call," and that a fix is forthcoming. Indeed, as noted in our review, we've had "far, far fewer dropped calls than we experienced on our 3GS." We're not seeing very many videos showing more dropped call, but the bar change is interesting. Still, to be sure, we're adding another poll.
EDIT:
This one is for VDub
"Update 2:
Our readers are reporting that though they've observed a similar issue, it is not affecting the call quality. So it seems to be a software glitch or might have something to do with the fact that an iPhone 4 was restored from an iPhone 3GS backup.
Update 3:
Kewlj1313 has restored his iPhone 4 as a new iPhone rather than from his iPhone 3GS backup and it seems to have resolved his freezing issue. Thanks Kewlj1313 for your comment.
Thanks for the feedback everyone."
You must do the carrier update, seen ppl getting whacked out signal patterns when not updated

Sn0wBreeze 1.6 Released : Jailbreak iOS 4 for Windows
quote:
Yesterday we had the release of PwnageTool 4.01 for Mac, from the Dev-Team, which allowed you to make custom iOS 4 firmwares ready for jailbreaking. Only a day later, we now have Windows support for creating custom jailbroken firmwares, with Sn0wBreeze 1.6
Just like RedSn0w, you will have the additional functionality options for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, for multitasking and wallpapers. The same rules apply for Sn0wBreeze 1.6 as does PwnageTool. Certain devices are not supported. This is simply due to the fact that the hardware is not supported in iOS 4.0. The Phone 2G, iPod Touch, iPod Touch 3G are not supported. Neither is the iPhone 3GS with the new Bootrom, the MC models.
If you have an iPhone 3GS, Sn0wbreeze 1.6 only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom. If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak, then you can create the custom firmware with Sn0wbreeze 1.6 and restore this ipsw with your jailbroken iPhone, while in recovery mode.
If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you can create the firmware with Sn0wBreeze and restore your iPhone 3G from recovery mode or DFU mode. If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a Sn0wbreeze's DFU mode. If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.
Just like PwnageTool, you can add custom packages, which means you can include ultrasn0w along with the firmware so that you won't need Wi-Fi access to install it later. So basically everything that was offered on the Mac side with PwnageTool, is now available on the Windows side via Sn0wBreeze.
As an alternative to Sn0wbreeze 1.6, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac).
Let us recap real quick. Here is a list of supported devices:
iPhone 3GS (old bootrom, non MC model, not spirit jailbroken)
iPhone 3G (might require DFU,)
iPod 2G (non MC model, not spirit jailbroken)
In almost every case, you need to be previously jailbroken except for the 3G, but you must NOT be jailbroken with Spirit (on 3.1.2 this might work, but 3.1.3 has issues).
Sorry guys, still no support for newer model iPhone 3GS. Stick to 3.1 for now.

Some iPhone 4 models dropping calls when held left-handed, including ours (video)
What's more annoying than spending hours lining up for a shiny new gadget? Learning that your precious phone can't actually connect to the network. Well, depending on how you hold it -- word has it that the iPhone 4's bottom-left corner isn't playing nice with your skin. If you recall from the keynote, that's where the Bluetooth / WiFi / GPS antenna meets its GSM / UMTS counterpart. So we decided to test on two brand new iPhone 4 handsets purchased today in the UK.
One iPhone 4 demonstrated the issue everytime it was held in our left hand (as a right-handed person is apt to do) so that our palm was essentially bridging the two antennas. You can see that in the video after the break. Bridging the two with a finger tip, however, didn't cause any issues with the reported reception. If we had to guess, we'd say that our conductive skin was acting to detune the antenna -- in fact, we've already managed to slowly kill two calls that way so it's not just an issue with the software erroneously reporting an incorrect signal strength. That said, we had no issues when Apple's $29 rubber bumper accessory (given to us free for standing in line) was attached, creating a buffer between our palm and the antennas. See the video evidence after the break including Insanely Great Mac's version which got us to worrying in the first place.
P.S. Don't forget to take our poll and let us know if you're seeing both the yellow spots / stripes and reception issues. Unfortunately, we're suffering from both flaws which is not a good sign for quality control on this first batch of Apple handsets.
P.P.S. Since some of you are asking, our review unit showed none of these issues.
