I always thought he was more of his own independent hacker
i thought there was rivalry between him and the dev team becuase of release issues of jailbreaks. Where the dev team wanted to release at later dates,., and he wouldnt listen and release his own jailbreak tool
i did read that article you posted.. but i think there are two sides to every story. |

If there was his side, Gehomo would of posted it on his blog and the battle would of been fully out to the public.
Rushing releases only screws things up everyone, never thought the whole new bootrom issue would still effect ppl in 4.0. Totally insane ... all the ppl who had this bootrom only enjoyed their 3GS 25% of it's life on the market. |

Yes, you haven't been paying attention to this thread for the past year?
From the iPhone Dev-Team: 06.29.09
Here’s the critical point, the reason why we’re delaying our version of the jailbreak: Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do… the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.
It is possible that Apple will find the bug we use without our handing it to them on a silver platter (via a public jailbreak). In that case, we will have delayed our jailbreak for “nothing”. But we’d rather be safe than sorry!
Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak.
In the meantime, we have some remaining 3.0 jailbreak issues to investigate, including push notification. Thanks for being patient with us while we took a 3GS “timeout”!

Geohomo releases Blackrain (which was full of bugs and sketchy to the max) on 07.03.09, 10 days after the Dev Team's announcement.
Apple changed the bootrom right after ... |

i actually pop in and out sometimes..havent fully followed it.
But wouldnt apple nevertheless change the bootrom regardless of who releases it or when a jailbreak is released??
Im guessing that Geohot gave apple the secret code they use by releasing the public jailbreak right? |

A)Next time google it dude.
B)Yes they will, what would you want though ... 90% or 50% of the 3GS users suffering?
C)Pretty much handed the secert code over to Apple. |

iOS 4.1 Includes Changes To Fix Incorrect Display Of Signal Strength; New Baseband
Part1

MacRumors is reporting that iOS 4.1 Beta 1 that was just released by Apple to developers of its iPhone Developer Program includes the signal bar changes to fix incorrect display of signal strength.
It will provide users a much better indication of the reception that they are getting in a given area.
Apple had released a public statement couple of weeks back in response to the iPhone 4 reception saga to confirm that they’re incorrectly displaying the signal strength, which will be fixed with a software update that will provide users a much better indication of the reception that they are getting in a given area.
Apple had explained:
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.
To fix this, we are adopting AT&T’s recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength. The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see.
We will issue a free software update within a few weeks that incorporates the corrected formula.
Macrumors has observed that the new signal bars appear slightly taller than the previous ones just as Apple had mentioned, which indicates that Apple has incorporated the corrected formula in iOS 4.1.
iOS 4 also comes with new modem firmware or baseband (updated to 02.07.01 from 01.59.00).
It’s too early to confirm whether the iPhone software update has improved the situation for iPhone 4 users who had reported the reception problem.
Update 1:
iH8sn0w has issued the following warning to users who want jailbreak and unlock their iPhone:
ALL JAILBREAKERS AND ESPECIALLY UNLOCKERS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM iOS4.1 Beta UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!
Update 2:
Macrumors is reporting that early reports indicate no change in the reception loss experienced by some users.
However, looks like some users don't have the right expectations from the software update. Here are some key points from Apple's open letter to iPhone 4 users:
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.
The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see.
So to summarize Apple's statement on the issue, if you’ve observed the reception issue then it doesn’t mean Apple will fix the reception issues as Apple can’t fix it as it depends on the your carriers network. The iPhone Software update will ensure that the signal is being reported correctly to give a much better indication of the reception that you’re getting (so that you can blame the carrier for the poor reception instead of Apple).
According to Apple:
gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones.
So you will still notice a drop in reception when you grip iPhone but it won't be as dramatic as it was observed in iOS 4.0. Ever since iPhone 4 was released, users seem to have forgotten that AT&T has a patchy network, iOS 4.1 should bring back the bad memories.
Update 3:

iOS 4.1 Beta Reveals Game Center With A New Look, FaceTime Favorites, Ability To Disable Spell Check And More
Part2

It looks like iOS 4.1 beta 1 also includes some minor improvements in addition to the fix for the incorrect display of signal strength.
Macrumors forum members have discovered that iOS 4.1 includes Game Center, Apple’s social gaming network with a brand new look.
Macrumors reports:
Game Center is Apple's matchmaking and leaderboard social network for iOS games. The lack of Game Center in the official iOS 4.0 release caused some confusion, but Apple had never intended Gamecenter to be launched alongside 4.0. Instead, Apple had promised Game Center to come out later this year.
It remains in beta testing for now with no announced release date. The style of the app, however, has been dramatically changed from the original release.
Macrumors forum users have also discovered the following minor changes in iOS 4.1 beta 1:
•Flash/Camera buttons reposition themselves in landscape (as seen in the screenshot below).
•Favorites in the Phone app can now be added as Voice or Facetime.
•Check Spelling can be turned Off in Setting

We will let you know if we find out about any more new features
or changes in iOS 4.1 beta 1.
Please do let us know your views on the new changes in iOS 4.1 beta 1.
