Apple Store Visit: iPhone Swap #9
Just came from the Apple Store over at Yorkdale ... found lots of tiny pressure cracks and it was time to swap it to iPhone #9!
This time around it was time to swap the GF's too; she had a big pressure crack by the dock connector. Buddy of mine had two huge cracks; it was so bad that he can lift the backing off almost.
Got there and the dude seem firm and kinda mean, told him my unit had the overheating issue and got worse after a restore. Then I showed him the pressure cracks, he got out his flash light and no questions asked .... opened a brand new one iPhone out of the box for me.
Next up, GF's unit ... even though her pressure crack was worse then mine, her water damage indicators were bright red. This was a problem, if the dude checks it (which he did with mine) the warranty is done for ... so I had to start talking ultra tech and distract the dude and behold ... he skips this step. I was pretty nervous and was afraid she would get rejected. Super happy she got her replacement! I heard of horrific stories about ppl getting rejected ... ironicly some chick got the I had the first time and she had to buy a new iPhone due to water damage indicators were activated.
Even though the iPhone has minor defects here and there ... and I've swapped about 9 diff units, I must say their customer service is the best I’ve seen. I’ve seen RMA cases like this for the Palm Treo Pro, pressure cracks appearing the day after ppl noticed them, Palm rejects the service calls.
If you want to swap your iPhone for a new one ... here are a list of defects you can find that are valid.
1-dead & stuck pixels
2-chrome bezel not lined up, sharp on the edge or have the famous light leak on the left side
3-dust in the screen <---- no joke, they even do that
4-overheating warning (screenshot it, I never got that far)
5-buttons get soft
6-pressure cracks
7-almost anything!
Hats of to you Apple, 10/10 customer service! |

I have to disagree.. They are pretty picky.. Don't know if it's becusse I have a 3gs.
Went in and told them that my sensor and home button doesn't work all the time. They tested it for 5 mins and said they don't see the problem. I told them that the majority of the time it works.. But soemtimes it's nor working and they can't say that testing it out fIve minutes would be adequate. They said they need to pysically see the problem in order to switch it with a new one
Ended up asking for the manager and he said the same thing.
I'm going to call head office |

I did mine on Saturday...
Two specks of dust under the glass...
Bad battery....
Bluetooth wouldn't connect to anything...
They handed me a replacement no problem...
3 months more warranty...
But why isn't it a year???
Cause it's a refurb??? |

It's b/c you got the 3GS, not enough in stock and super expensive to produce.
I've had a brand new iPhone each month so far. |

Ive never really bothered to exchange my phone becuase i was so pleased with the 3g.. but this 3gs has a bezel chrome that is just slightly off on the side and its really annoying feeling it
I think you are right about them being very cautious about replacing the 3gs. Its very expensive |

I'm so deeply sorry you lost it, that's a real bummer :(
Just get another 3G somehow, ask a family member who's haven't done a hardware upgrade ... or get one from Kijiji, i've seen a few for $300.00
You didn't had to get MobileMe, there are many other tracking software out there. |

Nokia? My N95 died after one drop ... I just left it there once I saw how slider got knocked out of place. |
