It works pretty good, but get some tape to tape it to your dash like I did LOL
The only stupid thing they didn't include, yet, is text to speech. Seems like a huge oversight in my mind, like what the hell, but hopefully they add it in an update. The stupid fackin thing talks in Miles instead of KMs, even if you select KMs, grrr. It's all the little things that piss me off haha. |
KM or Miles is dependant on the voice you select. If you pick a US voice, you'll get Miles. Pick a UK voice, you get KM. It's not that difficult. |

lol I was hoping someone would tell me something like this. Thanks. Totally never clued in to that. I need more coffee this morning.
It works way better now. Instead of it saying "In one quarter miles, turn left" it tells me meters now, and I'm sure it will tell me KMs if it's a farther distance. Perfect. |

:D
I just want to follow-up with ya all regarding wifi in the new 3.01 firmware.
After using it a bit... They see to have set some power saving feature to the iphone. Instead of having the wifi radio being on all the time, it now turns itself on when only necessary even though you have it enabled in the usual settings. Sure it's a good idea, but apps that rely on wifi aren't enabled right away so there's a delay now. For example, clicking on the weather app will say update failed the first time you open it, open it again, and now it's updated... kinda frustrating if you ask me. |

TomTom on the iPhone was built for the 3GS, not really for the 3G. It's a major memory hog and they did this to force us to upgrade. Really stupid idea, since there's 4 other Navigation apps that do the same thing. Ppl are just gonna switch over ...
TomTom ran fine on the Treos on any map mode and those units are not that fast.
They've disabled a lot of function, such as "Warn near POI" and etc. (Which is a memory hog lol)
Like i said before, hope I can find away to speed this up ... might not happen. Can't strip the maps down either.
EDIT: The slowness seems to be from te GPS Chip within the iPhone, hence that's why TomTom is coming out with their cradle that has a builtin GPS Chip that's more powerful then the iPhone's. |

It's actually not that fast with my 3gs. I notice there's a lag in the displayed position which can be quite annoying when you're used to speedier gps systems. iGO8 for example is extremly fast on my cheap ass 50$ gps unit. The Tom Tom can't even match it. |

Thanks for the update, there you go ppl ... it's the GPS Chip. You have saved a lot of ppl's sanity from trying to get the 3GS and hoping it was the 3G problem. |

Good to hear actually. I hope they release the friggin car kit soon so we can test this.
Any word on a possible date yet? It's weird that the app is released, but the car kit is not, just doesn't make sense to me lol. |

They were losing market share ... they had to push their software out asap.
CarKit: Not gonna bother buying it, it's gonna be pricey. Gonna wait for the next gen and who knows ... maybe someone on Cydia will write an app to get the iPhone, TomTom and an external GPS reciever to all work. |

Yeah I guess that's true, but even so, get your people to work 24_7 to get this out (yes I'm impatient lol).
If the car kit enhances the GPS in the app and speeds it up then I'll pay the price to get it. The other features of the car kit interest me too, so I think it's worth it, unless it's like $150 lol. |

MY PPL? Your pretty racist man lol
Price will be $150-200 + tax, TomTom kits are expensive. |
