So if I may ask. I'm running a JB'd 3.1.2 system. Do I still have to worry about this tethered reset crap if I use the new Redsnow 0.9 and my 3GS phone's serial is 86932****** ? |
Still has to be tethered for the new 3GS bootroms, you can thank GeoHomo for this. |

So since I don't have the new bootrom (I think) then it would be safe to say that I could do a hard reset? I have the lastest blackrain installed. |

I run tethered. I have a new 3gs. Its no big deal. Dont let people make you think one jailbreak is better than the other, they are both hacks. I personally havent experienced any issues as E2EK1EL describes and if what he says is true that each device behaves differently pending on what you install and bla bla bla, then who gives a if you have to plug the thing into your computer after a hard reset.....
Ive said it before, and I'll say it again..........BIG ING DEAL. Be thankfull you CAN jailbreak the things, and unlock them. Its only a matter of time before it becomes much MUCH more harder to do than it is now.
E2EK1EL.......easy with the Geohomo buisness, lets see YOU do the work he did. |

| Because my baseband remains intact, redsn0w 0.9.3 can be used to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone 2G on firmware 3.1.3 :D |

If I was 14 or 21 and had nothing to do, I would invest in the time to work on jailbreaking scene. (No doubts about it), I call GeoHomo whatever I want and shouldn't offend anyone. I respect his work and effort, but don't respect what he did to expose the exploit.
If you haven't noticed, from the day I got my unit ... I've invested a lot of time with researching and sharing info with everyone here.
(Hence I made this thread) |

Oh if you don't have the new bootrom, go a head with with redsnow.
Redo everything, restore as a new user and jaiblreak with Redsnow 0.9. |

Im not knocking your research dude, hell Ive even picked up a few sick apps and learnt a few new tricks cause of you.
Just give the geohomo stuff a rest. If he didnt expose it, some one else would have.
I and a hand full of other friends are using the Geohomo jailbreak, and not one of us give a rats ass about our tethered nonsence. Why drag it out to be such a big deal? what percentage of people of iphones jail break them? and what percentage of that small number give a rats ass about small differences in "said" performance, or who cracked this or who hacked that.........people just want their phones to work, with a simple method, and download free ...pretty much sums it up for most of the jailbreaking population out there
It doesnt offend me to call him that at all...........it Just seems like every second or third post you go out of your way to complain about him or knock the tethered jailbreak, when really, it isnt a big deal to the rest of the world.
Carry on........... |

Redsnow 0.9 Review - 24hrs later
Amazing, my batt life is so muchy better now.
Last 3x longer - 1hr of iPod running for the morning drive, use to drain 15-20% and now it's only 5%. Batt life 10 hrs left me 75 - 85% batt life still. (2G mode only & heavy usage) Also recharging seems faster then before and batt % seems on point now.
I've have so many diff FW loaded within the past 2 months ...
Redsnow 3.0.1
Blacksnow 3.1.2
Pwnagetool 3.1.2
Redsnow 3.0.1 (downgraded)
Cydia running better then I've ever seen, super smooth and stable. I've que'ed up all my apps to install in one shot and no crashing.
The unit itself is pretty smooth and slick, much better then the previous FW & JB listed above.
Give it a shot and see if you like it or not. You may have the same results ... who knows. |

| I like the RockAPP as it stores all my JB'd apps for a re-install. |

Apple will never update the 2G's baseband ever again.
"Update 2: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too. Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!). For older iPod touch 2G, we’ll need a small (1-character) change in redsn0w source." |
