Apple loses lawsuit over iPad design
Apple has lost a lawsuit to Spanish firm Nuevas Tecnologías y Energías Catalá, which fought back after the Cupertino-based company tried to block the company’s “nt-k” Android tablet from reaching market in Spain. Apple originally accused the Spanish firm of creating a “copy” of its iPad in 2010. According to FOSS Patents, Nuevas Tecnologías y Energías Catalá is now seeking damages related to the seizure of its tablets by Spanish customs, and it will file an antitrust suit against Apple as well. As FOSSPatents points out, the lawsuit is related to a “design-related right” and not a patent. Apple has reportedly used the “design-related right” to ban Samsung’s German subsidiaries from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 7.7. FOSS Patents explains that unlike a patent lawsuit that may result in fines or licensing fees, Apple attacked Nuevas Tecnologías y Energías Catalá for violating a criminal law.
Apple isn’t sweating Kindle Fire, says Android fragmentation will drive consumers to iPad
Several analysts believe Amazon has an imminent hit on its hands with its upcoming Kindle Fire, a $199 Android-powered tablet that features deep integration with Amazon’s many digital services. While Amazon’s new tablet will be available for just over six weeks in 2011, some analysts think the company could ship as many as 5 million Kindle Fire slates during the holiday quarter. Rapid adoption of that magnitude would certainly make the Fire the fastest-selling Android tablet of all time but according to Barclays Group analyst Ben Reitzes, Apple CEO Tim Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer aren’t worried. Read on for more.
Following a meeting with the pair of Apple chief officers, Reitzes delivered a note to investors suggesting that the company sees Amazon’s forthcoming tablet as good news for the iPad. The Kindle Fire’s low price point makes it accessible, but Apple believes it further fragments the Android ecosystem, which may cause consumers to flee to the iPad.
“While the pricing at $199 looks disruptive for what seems to be the iPad’s most important rising challenge, the Amazon Fire – it is important to note that it could fuel further fragmentation in the tablet market,” Reitzes wrote. ”While compatible with Android, the Apps work with Amazon products. The more fragmentation, the better, says Apple, since that could drive more consumers to the stable Apple platform. We believe that Apple will get more aggressive on price with the iPad eventually but not compromise the product quality and experience.”
Amazon will release its Kindle Fire tablet on November 15th, and a second Amazon tablet is expected to launch in the second half of 2012.

Hmmm not worrying about competition is exactly what Nokia did when RIM came around, and exactly what RIM did when Apple came around. Look where they are now. If it was me I'd keep making the iPad 2 when the 3rd is released and just sell it at a discounted price like they're doing with the 3Gs. Brilliant move on their part to compete with the lower end of the market cause lets face it Apple's biggest flaw is cost regardless of what product you're looking at.

So it looks like you do need a net connection for Siri. Just reading that there were reports of it not function properly over the last couple of days.

US Cellular: we don't need no stinkin' iPhone
Dost a company actually dare turn down the seductive wiles of the iPhone? As a matter of fact, there is at least one US carrier that has the audacity to say no to Tim Cook's face: US Cellular. During her company's quarterly earnings call, CEO Mary Dillon mentioned that the mobile provider was given the opportunity to sell the iPhone, but Apple's "terms were unacceptable" when considering the risk and profitability involved. It's bad news for anyone on US Cellular that was remotely interested in grabbing one; the good news, however, is that the fact the opportunity was even available -- paired with C-Spire's intentions of selling the devices next week -- will at least give hope to customers of the little guys. Cricket? Cincinnati Bell? Who's up next?

Apple is Testing Siri With the iPhone 4?
Apple is reportedly testing a build of iOS 5 which includes Siri support for the iPhone 4, according to JailbreakNation.
Today, we have a very interesting bit of news, tipped to us by a source close to Apple. According to them, Apple is testing Siri on devices other than the iPhone 4S. The device specifically mentioned to us was the iPhone 4, but we can most likely assume that other devices are being tested as well. This means that we will potentially see a software update that allows Siri to run on older devices.
AppAdvice was able to confirm the source of this information and says that it does appear to be legitimate.
"The fact that they're considering it after the iPhone 4S release and even letting employees use it outside of the campus as a test drive shows that there still is a chance this will become a reality. Yet, Apple has now finished the test drive and removed the feature from the employees' iPhones to minimize the chances of it getting out."
Another source says the test went really well as far as performance; however, the microphone of the iPod Touch 4G is not as good as the iPhone which could be an issue.
(I've never heard of JailbreakNation, but we've all seen how smooth Siri runs on the IP4)

It's your first day on the IP4S, batt life is totally diff compaired to the BBs. Plus, it needs a few days of usage to be broken for a full batt life charge.
For now, set your date and time to manual settings until 5.0.1 goes public.
Just like last the IP4 launch; someone complained about their IP4 batt, after two days it was better then the previous models.
Speaking of 5.0.1 B2, found this little glitch tonight (highlight the entire pic to see what I'm trying to display)
Here's the full pic, the dail pad was 1/3 of the screen size.

So I should use my phone until the battery goes completely dead and then give it a full charge?
I disabled the Setting Time Zone feature in location services.

I believe they're doing this because they basically have no choice. With the jailbreaking community poised to make it available to devices other than the 4S's, I think Apple is just trying trying to save face due to the fact that the Siri feature should have been available to all in the first place with the release of IOS5. I can't say for sure about the 3GS people, but I'm sure many of the IP4 people weren't too impressed that they were left out of Siri's loop to be available to them. Technically there was never a reason to leave them out in the first place, at least so it seems. The fact it can be made to run on devices other than the 4S's shows that Apple has yet again tried to alienate users just to try and stimulate them to dump their relatively new devices in favor of the newest models possible. Good for Apple I suppose, but this tactic sucks for the rest of us.

Just use it normally, whatever you do don't let the battery drop lower then 10-20% ever. My coworker kept his 3GS battery charging @ 10% almost every charge, now his batt is fried and dies @ 58%
Of course you need to drain it to 0% and full charge overnight once a month for battery conditioning. This applies with all mobile phone batteries.
