Apple Is Selling Every iPhone 4 It Can Make; Indicates Antenna Issue Is Not A Deal-Breaker
Apple reported all-time record revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion, or $3.51 per diluted share for its fiscal 2010 third quarter ended May 27, 2010 at Apple’s Q3 earning call.
During the Q&A session at the end of the earning call, not surprisingly Apple’s COO Tim Cook was asked some questions about iPhone 4’s antenna issues.
When he was asked whether the iPhone 4 antenna issues had impacted sales, he responded:
Let me be very clear: We are selling every unit we can make.
When he was asked to further clarify on the effect of antenna issues and if there were more complaints and returns, he reiterated:
My phone is ringing off the hook with people asking for more demand. So hard to say. Returns are less than for iPhone 3GS, and the ones for this specific issue are extremely small.
He also said that Apple doesn’t purposefully creates a shortage of their products for buzz:
“We do not purposefully create a shortage for buzz. I’m not sure where that comes from. Demand for iPhone 4 is absolutely stunning.”
When we had looked at smartphone antenna performance and their weak spots, we had mentioned that there are few benefits of having an external antenna (in case of iPhone 4) such as better signal quality (since its not in a casing), better battery life as Apple has been able to squeeze in a bigger battery, better aesthetics, more structural rigidity but it is at the expense of a more visible and sensitive “weak spot”. That is the reason Apple had to explain the death grip problem after iPhone 4 was launched and not with earlier iPhone models.
We felt that Apple had done the right thing by giving away free cases to all its iPhone 4 customers and offering a full refund to customers who are not happy getting a free case even though it had found that it is affecting a very small percentage of users based on the data it had collected.
But we have maintained that at the end of the day, customers will vote whether the trade-off is a deal breaker. According to Apple, demand for iPhone 4
is stunning and they’re selling every iPhone 4 unit they can make, which clearly shows that customers don’t think it’s a deal breaker |

Well I upgraded to 4.0.1, which I now know I shouldn't have because I can't use redsn0w to jailbreak lol. Frig! I guess I have to wait for devteam to update redsn0w.
If I don't have this correct, please let me know, but considering it won't reconigze my ipsw, I guess I'm screwed for now lol. |

Here are the IPSWs from the beginning of time

Get the ver you want, I would suggest 4.0. The baseband from 4.0 to 4.0.1 was not updated.
Once you get the IPSW; hold shift + restore, locate the IPSW and load it up. If it gives you an error, then your out of luck ... Apple started their soft SHSH checks w/ the 3G on 4.0.
Not unless you've saved your SHSH blobs yesterday, then your ok.
Good luck homeboy |

Thanks man.
I did get the error, but said screw it. I used Redsn0w with that 4.0 ipsw and just jailbroke it anyway. Lost my apps but who cares. It kept my contacts and other settings, so I'm happy.
I SSHed into the unit as well and took out all those shadow and gradient files, so we will see if I notice a difference. I'm sure I will.
Thanks again. |

Great job dude.
You'll notice the diff once you've launch the springboard after and etc. Remember to reboot more, those damn 3rd party apps don't flush the memory properly.
I remember someone made an auto flashing app on Cydia a long time ago.
You should compaire how slow it runs w/ Wallpaper & Multitasking w/o removing those files. Even with no wallpaper its slow too. |

^^ Yeah it's night and day the difference, way better.
It used to hang when starting a text or waiting for the keyboard to pop up, some times like 5-7 seconds. It's actually useable now haha. |

I salute you sir! Maxium respects dude, wasnt hard to get yourself out of this jam right?
After posting the instructions 4x, made a damn video to show how it compairs to 3.0 and now we got PLAYA confirming it ... you guys believe me now?
Honestly, we didn't need to go this length to prove it works.
(I remember some "ppl" here stating graphics and etc on an OS doesn't effect the performance speed at all. Well here's your proof it does) |

The good news is that Skype has also announced that they no longer have plans to charge users the monthly fee to make calls over 3G. |
