Adobe will soon discontinue development of Flash Player for mobile devices according to a recent report. Citing sources with knowledge of Adobe’s future plans, ZDNet’s Tech Broiler blog claims that Adobe will no longer develop Flash Player for mobile browsers, instead focusing on mobile apps, “expressive” desktop content and increasing the company’s investment in HTML5. “Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores,” Adobe reportedly wrote in a memo. “We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations.” The purported memo adds that Adobe will continue to support mobile Flash on Android and the BlackBerry PlayBook, supplying critical bug fixes and security updates as required.

Kindle Fire demand surpasses iPad1
Amazon is seeing huge pent-up demand for its Kindle Fire tablet ahead of launch according to data from a recent study. Market research firm ChangeWave conducted a survey of 2,600 consumers in an effort to quantify demand for Amazon’s upcoming Kindle Tablet. In a note to clients on Wednesday, RBC analyst Mike Abramsky presented ChangeWave’s data, which shows strong demand that exceeds pre-launch demand for the iPad as determined by a similar survey in 2010. Read on for more.
According to ChangeWave’s survey, 5% of respondents have already pre-ordered Amazon’s Kindle Fire, or they are very likely to purchase the tablet following its launch next week. Another 12% of_respondents say they are somewhat likely to purchase the device. A similar survey conducted in 2010 ahead of the iPad’s launch found that 4% of_respondents were very likely to buy the tablet and 9% were somewhat likely.
Apple’s iPad was the first modern media tablet on the market when it launched last year. As the category was unfamiliar at the time, it is possible that consumers were hesitant to commit to a purchase. Now that tablets have flooded the market, however successful or unsuccessful most models may be, consumers are likely familiar with the device category and therefore more comfortable with committing one way or the other.
The more interesting stat, perhaps, is that more than a quarter of respondents in ChangeWave’s survey who confirmed an imminent Kindle Fire purchase said they would buy the Amazon tablet in place of an iPad.
“Tablet contenders (Xoom, Galaxy Tab, PlayBook, etc) have failed to gain appreciable traction against iPad’s est. 67% share, and iPad 2 should be a popular holiday purchase,” Abramsky wrote in his note. “However, strong early Fire uptake seems likely, raising speculation Apple now faces a real tablet contender. Survey data says 26% of likely Fire buyers (i.e. of the 5%) say they will delay/put on hold iPad buying. Sustained Fire uptake and ‘buzz’ will depend on consumer/reviewer reactions to Fire’s user experience.”
Amazon’s Kindle Fire launches on November 15th for $199 and pre-orders have been very strong. Analysts estimate that the online retail giant could sell as many as 5 million Kindle Fire tablets in the holiday quarter this year.
Australian judge demands that Apple show carrier contracts to Samsung
Australian Federal Court Justice Annabelle Bennett has ruled that Apple must show Samsung its contracts with Vodafone, SingTel and Telstra if it cannot reach an agreement on Samsung’s accusations that the iPhone maker contractually forces the carriers to subsidize the iPhone. Samsung has also argued that the Apple iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPhone 3GS infringe on its patents, and has sought to ban sales of the devices in Australia. Apple, however, has already successfully banned Samsung’s Australia-based subsidiaries from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. “We will resist any attempts by our friends to push us into a corner,” Apple lawyer Andrew Fox said. “This is quite clearly a fishing expedition.” Earlier this month, Samsung requested the iPhone 4S source code and, according to Bloomberg, Apple provided the company with 220 pages of code, but left out one file. Samsung also has ongoing lawsuits with Apple in Japan, Germany, France and the United States.
iOS 5 hides an Android-like autocorrect keyboard bar, here’s how to enable it
In addition to the hidden panorama mode, iOS 5 hides another secret feature: an Android-like autocorrect keyboard bar. As you can see in the screenshot above, courtesy of Sonny Dickson, the bar lets users pick from a series of word choices. Here’s how to enable it:
1. Download iBackupBot
2. Backup your iPhone/iPod in iTunes
3. Open iBackupBot and find the backup, then load it.
4. Find Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and open the file. (if your software isn’t registered you’ll have to press cancel and then it will open)
5. Add in the following code: KeyboardAutocorrectionListsYES
6. Save your modifications, and then restore from backup from within iBackupbot.

Police Called in to Control Massive iPhone 4S Line in Hong Kong [Video]
Police were called in to help control the massive lineup for the iPhone 4S in Hong Kong which is set to go on sale at 7 a.m. local time on November 11th, reports M.I.C. Gadget.
Fights nearly broke out as 'South Asians' tried to cut the line possibly looking to purchase and resell the popular device for a profit.
Apple is reportedly limiting the line to 1,250 people and sectioning them off into pens of 25 people.
50 pens were made, and each pen is filled with 25 people. The people inside the pens kinda look like sheep, goats, and pigs. What's more, if someone tries to leave a pen to go to the washroom or get some food & drinks, security officials will photograph them with a camera so they will be allowed to re-enter their sorted pen.
There are reportedly 2,000 people stuck behind the last pen who will likely not get the opportunity to purchase an iPhone 4S.
A teenager from Hong Kong, Yu, said, "Mother fxxker! I had been waiting all week standing and queuing even though it was raining! And you're telling me I don't deserve a place to get an iPhone 4S !?"
(Told you guys Hong Kong is the prime location for Apple, all these ppl are reselling them in China for an arm and leg. Think about next year's re-design .... chaos)

RIM to forge ahead with Flash on the BlackBerry PlayBook, even if it's dead [Video]
Adobe may have killed off Flash for both TVs and mobile devices, but that isn't stopping RIM from continuing to support it on the PlayBook. In a statement provided to All Things D yesterday, the BlackBerry manufacturer confirmed that it's not giving up on the dream just yet, because it's one of the Flash Player source code licensees that Adobe will continue to support post mortem:
"As an Adobe source code licensee, we will continue to work on and release our own implementations. RIM remains committed to delivering an uncompromised Web browsing experience to our customers, including native support for Adobe Flash Player on our BlackBerry PlayBook tablet (similar to a desktop PC browser), as well as HTML5 support on both our BlackBerry smartphone and PlayBook browsers. In fact, we are pleased that Adobe will focus more efforts on the opportunities that HTML5 presents for our developers, and shares our commitment to HTML5 as we discussed together at DevCon Americas."
It certainly sounds strange for RIM to issue such a ringing endorsement of an ostensibly moribund platform, though it's not entirely unreasonable, considering the fact that Flash is a major component of QNX. Still, it's hard for us to see RIM expanding the medium much further, at a time when virtually everyone else seems committed to an HTML5 future.
“BlackBerry still dominates the battle of the Smartphone brands in Canada”, report says[Video]
There’s approximately 25 million wireless subscribers in Canada – majority of the carriers have announced their Q3 2011 numbers and the growing trend is that customers are leaving feature phones and bolting towards smartphones. Adoption is increasing every quarter and carriers reported the percentage of postpaid smartphone users have skyrocketed to over 45% of their total subscriber base.
A new study called the “Mobil-ology Study of Smartphone, Tablet & eReader” was conducted by Ipso-Reid. Over an “eight month period between January and August of 2011″ they found that the top mobile brand in the Smartphone category is BlackBerry, followed by Apple, then a “variety of other handset brands using the Android platform”, such as Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola and Sony. However, you can also look at it from an OS perspective, Ipsos stated that RIM’s BlackBerry market share percentage dropped from 41% in January to 38% in August, while Google’s Android OS collectively has 27% of the market (increased 1%), then Apple’s iOS increased from 23% in January to 25% in August.
As for tablets, the report said “Apple dominated” at the start of 2011 with 78% market share, but slipped to 56% in August when other manufacturers launched tablets. “BlackBerry emerged from 0% to 10% in those eight months and a series of other smaller newcomers have staked out very narrow slices of the market share pie at this point”. No mention of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, LG Optimus Pad, Sony Tablet or the HTC Flyer.
On an odd note, Ipsos stated a few times in the report that there is a “slowing pace of Smartphone adoption in Canada” and that “the market continues to change with plateaus in Smartphone sales”. These statements go against everything the carriers and manufacturers are reporting. Smartphone adoption and sales are both increasing, not decreasing.
Mary Beth Barbour, SVP of Ipsos Reid said “In Canada, the Big Three brands remain BlackBerry for Smartphones, Apple for Tablets and Kobo for eReaders. But as the market continues to change with plateaus in Smartphone sales, high adoption of the Tablet and continued interest in eReaders, there is no doubt these brands will face new challenges and Canadians will welcome new choices. BlackBerry’s current troubles and the recent passing of Apple’s Steve Jobs continue to keep these brands in the news, but the main challenge will be to stay fresh, remain relevant and peak the interest of buyers. And with Android and others gunning for their share of the pie, it will continue to be an exciting market to watch.”

The only real losers in all of this are the Australian public. Shame to see the government block any of the products but you can fully expect Samsung to go all out after their tab got blocked.

Agreed. It's a shame. Apple started all this legal drama, going after anyone who had something remotely similar or hired employees that had worked for Apple 10+ years ago. This is the tech game, one company invents something, then others make it better. Nothing new. Now, everyone is suing everyone and the consumer is the one who loses.

China Telecom looking to expand into US consumer market, eyes 2012 launch
Instead of resting on its laurels as China's third-largest wireless provider, China Telecom is now looking to branch out into relatively uncharted waters -- namely, the US consumer market. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Donald Tan, president of China Telecom Americas, confirmed that his company plans to bring its own branded wireless service to select US markets next year, in the hopes of capitalizing on the large Chinese communities and consumer bases scattered across the country. According to Tan, the proposed service would provide customers with handsets that could be used in both China and the US, theoretically appealing to Chinese-Americans, students or businessmen who travel frequently between the two countries. The exec didn't reveal much in the way of pricing, saying only that it would be "competitive," though he did acknowledge that the service is already undergoing trials with several unnamed wholesale partners. If the trial goes swimmingly, he added, China Telecom may expand it to Canada, as well, and would even consider purchasing or constructing its own network in the States (pending FCC approval, of course). The provider, which has already been marketing its services to US corporations for a decade, also has the capacity to spend "hundreds of millions or billions" on stateside acquisitions, though none are currently on the table. "We want some acquisitions in the U.S. and other countries on this continent," Tan explained. "It's a very quick way to growth."

Those looking to jailbreak their iOS devices should not update to today's release of iOS 5.0.1.
Earlier this week pod2g reported that a code signing bug found in iOS 5.0 will make it significantly easier for hackers to develop a full jailbreak for that firmware version. That bug has likely been closed in iOS 5.0.1.
Also, MuscleNerd has warned iOS users that there is no downgrade path from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 yet. He also recommends that users wait until one is available before they update.
Jailbreakers and unlockers should avoid today's 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading to 5.0 is developed.
Downgrade flow needs to be modified for AP "nonce" http://is.gd/b3G0io ... saved SHSH blobs are not enough to downgrade to 5.0
We'll keep you up to date on the latest developments...

Users still seeing their battery life drain quickly after this morning’s 5.0.1 update
Looking at the Apple support forums this afternoon, Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 update that was released today isn’t offering promised fixes of battery life (seen in the release notes) to everyone. Many users are still complaining, seeing battery life on their 4S’s dropping just as quickly as before. Here’s a few, out of many:
New update is no help at all. I opened Safari and lost 2 % just by opening it.
Upgraded to 5.0.1 this morning. Still draining at the exact same rate. Unplugged with a full charge 2 1/2 hours ago, and already down to 80% with light usage. Just lost 2% during a 15 minute shower. I see no difference at all.
Same here. Updated about 1.5 hours ago, battery has drained 20% since then with no usage! This is awful!
Roughly the same numbers here.
Apple did get something right however. Overall, majority of users are saying that the over the air update to get iOS 5.0.1 worked fantastic. We did see a few frustrated readers who weren’t able to receive the OTA update because their battery was below 50%.
Meanwhile others are reporting new issues with the firmware such as not being able to download apps over the air and incoming calls and texts that don't display the contact name as saved in the address book.
(I haven't seen any batt problems yet, but i've only had the IP4S for less then 24 hours. With that much horse power, same housing and fractional bigger battery ... we all know it's gonna chugg more batt life then the IP4)
