It was nice to have Intelliscreen back for a day & now its removed. Even if I had 32GB, no app is worth that space
TomTom App?
It's over 1GB with pre-loaded maps

I refuse to use TomTom for the iPhone
Don't know about the recent updates, but it was pretty limited and didn't have "warn when near POI" functions.
Also you couldn't stripp the maps down, I only drive in ONT and maybe NY State and the rest of the maps ... never used those regions.
That Intelliscreen app really ate away my storage ... 1.5gb gone and as soon as I plugg in my unit to comp, my iphone camera drive was full and my music library was too full to sync

Live Stream Video Between iPhones With Knocking Live Video iPhone App
Close on the heels of the iPhone getting its first video calling service from Fring comes another app that enables live video streaming between iPhones.
This iPhone app called Knocking Live Video developed by Pointy Heads Software is not only the first live video streaming app on the iPhone App Store, but also the first app to be approved despite using private APIs.
The iPhone app works with the help of a private API that helps in capturing frames live from the iPhone screen. For the app to work, both the sender and the recipient need to have the Knocking Live Video iPhone app installed on their devices. Once the sender launches the app on their iPhone, they may choose the iPhone user
to 'knock'. This triggers a push notification to the receiver and once it is answered, the iPhone app streams video live to the recipient iPhone. The app works via 3G as well as Wi-Fi networks and requires an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to transmit the video. You may view a demo of how the app works in the video below.
There is an interesting story behind the approval of the iPhone app. You might remember that Apple is against the use of private APIs by iPhone app developers
and had recently even introduced an additional layer of automation to the approval process in order to filter those apps that make use of private APIs. Knocking Live Video too was rejected on the same grounds late in October. However, Brian Meehan, the co-founder of Pointy Heads decided to persuade Apple further by writing a passionate email to Steve Jobs. In his letter, Meehan wrote
Within a couple of days, Meehan was contacted by an Apple executive informing him that the iPhone app was approved following instructions "directly from the top".
Though it is definitely an one-off case where Steve Jobs decided to intervene, it does paint a brighter picture for the future. It was only recently that Apple's Phil Schiller tried to pacify frustrated app developers by explaining why the app approval process needed to remain in order to maintain a family friendly App Store.
It finally looks like Apple has decided to pursue a soft policy on iPhone app developers and show a more human face to the app review process. It is still only the beginning and we will have to wait and see if Apple would initiate more steps in order to keep the app developers happy. After all, third party apps are one of the strongest points for the iPhone in its competition against the other smartphones, and Apple would desperately need to maintain the loyalty of these app developers in order to remain on top.

Microsoft Announces MS Office 2010 for iPhone
Microsoft on Tuesday announced that their Office 2010 productivity suite will be available for public release by June 2010.
While the public beta of the software is already available for download, the announcement from Microsoft was also significant in that it laid out the company's strategy for enabling easier access of MS Office from mobile phones.
According to the company's statement, Office 2010 on mobile phones shall be accessible in two ways - The Office 2010 Web Apps version and Office Mobile 2010 version. The free to download Web Apps version of Office 2010 supports the Safari 4 browser on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. However, this version does not permit editing files and users may only view Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote documents.
Editing of Office documents is available with Office Mobile 2010. Unfortunately, this version of MS Office runs solely on Windows 6.5 Mobile Operating System which means that it is not an ideal tool to edit MS Office documents for iPhone users.
This announcement comes as a disappointment solely because in light of increasing competition from rivals including Google, one would have expected Microsoft to offer MS Office 2010 on a much more inclusive list of platforms. Not only does Microsoft mandate users to have mobile phones running Windows 6.5 Mobile OS, but also insists that they run the Sharepoint Workspace in order to be able to edit Word documents. This definitely sounds like needless complication from the perspective of users.
Nevertheless, if you are still looking to work on Office documents on your iPhone, there are already a lot of third party iPhone apps like Documents To Go that let you to view as well as edit MS Office documents. Also, with Google Docs serving as an effective alternative, Microsoft could find the going tough, at least in the smartphone segment.

They don't have the "warn when near POI" function yet but it's something they can add in a new release easily. I never use POIs, so it doesn't bother me at all but some people it would I guess. I can just look on the map and see what's around me, and turn the display of any POIs on and off. An alert isn't a deal breaker for me that's for sure.
The new update has:
- Text To Speech
- Advanced Lane Guidance
- Select an address from your iPhone's contact list and let TomTom show you how to get there
- Control your music from inside the TomTom app
- Help me! Emergency menu (easy contact or directions to local emergency providers)
The car on the maps now syncs where you actually are on the road perfectly, and the IQ routes works awesome. I've noticed the difference in certain routes according to the time of day in relation to traffic volume.
I love it and all the map updates and app updates are free.
drifft
