Hey guys..I'm writing from Sardinia italy. Been using the navigon on this island and for the most part it's been working well. Made sure that the data is off so was using only the gps chip.
However about 10-15% of the time, the gps signal was too weak and didn't let me use the program. But it has really helped us get around. The only thing is that for some reason when I landed in Italy.. It absolutely didt work until I got a wifi connection and then navigon started working.
Going to Barcelona soon..later bitches!!!

iPhone 3G catches fire in car
Truly amazing images from those reported iPhoneClub.nl on an iPhone 3G that has led to a small fire inside a car, completely ruining the passenger seat.
The unfortunate Pieter C. had left the iPhone in the car for a few hours and on his return he immediately noticed a huge “stain” of black smoke on the glass front. The device was not connected all’accendisigari the car and was left in stand-by. However, a case brought White Belkin, who probably did not allow a sufficient passage of air in such a way as to enable a self-cooling. Currently Pieter blame attaches to T-Mobile, since the network was the only at that time were using in some way, the iPhone, the remotest causing overheating.
Lesson #1 Don't leave any electronics in a hot car for a few hrs & that case really didn't help w/ ventalation
I'll be getting the 3Gs by mail today or tomorrow, anything I should do first before updating it??
I'm intrested in jail breaking it btw.
any suggestions for accesories (cases, etc)??
Thanks

IMO, use the 3Gs as stock firmware for 1-2 weeks & once you get to know the OS, then jailbreak it.
It's all depends on how much you wanna spend for cases & etc. First thing first, get a screen protector from the apple store, I wouldn't use it without one of those on it.

Rogers Canada to Start Selling 8GB iPhone 3GS?
We’ve had a number of unconfirmed tips over the last few days about this so we figured we’d post it… apparently it seems that Rogers in Canada is in the process of shipping iPhone 3GS 8GB flavor handsets to stores. Again, unconfirmed, no idea on pricing (we have no clue where to start on that) but we felt it was newsworthy to at least let you guys know what we’re hearing. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Maybe the iPhone 3G stock is finally sold out and Apple will quietly (or not quietly) replace the $99 model iPhone with an 8GB 3GS?
UPDATE: Added screenshots. Definitely looks legit to us! One more shot after the breakage.
(Hmmmmmm should I get Applecare or this 8GB 3Gs .....)

Horrible software, the worest of them all!
1)It's SLOW regardless if your running a 3G or 3Gs
2)GPS Signal drops, in areas that shouldn't happen at all, the others never had this problem.
3)Speeddometer is way off, I'm going 80kms and it says 23km
4)Memory HOG - Slows down your unit bigtime and you need to reboot it.
These slowness is due to the level of graphics used, I've experinced this with Garmin w/ my Treo680 and NokiaN95 and this is the price you pay for nice graphics. TomTom ran ultra smooth and fast on all my phones ... Treo 650, Treo 680, Treo 750, Nokia N95 & a cheese ass Palm Pilot.

IMO, Roam it then ... since your not staying in one city.

TomTom's iPhone car kit and navigation software priced overseas
quote:
TomTom told us that its long-awaited iPhone navigation app and in-car mounting kit would be landing "this summer," and at least on our watch, summertime is quickly drawing to a close. If a pre-order listing over at Handtec is to be believed, it looks as if the outfit is exceedingly close to finally having both the software and hardware ready for shipping. The £113.85 ($194) asking price includes a suction mount for your iPhone as well as the mapping software, though there's no indication of exactly how much the app and hardware will run by themselves. Of course, until the iPhone supports multitasking, using it as a dedicated PND is still a risky move; one stray call during a pivotal moment in your travels and you can consider yourself lost. Oh, and then there's the fact that this thing has a TomTom logo on it -- if the iPhone app functions anything like the company's high-end GO 740 LIVE, we'd say you're better off asking Mr. Gas Station attendant (or buying a different brand).
