Ya, if I do that, i get an error saying my device isnt eligable for that firmware. I read that 3gs users cant resotre to 3.12 any longer, either from apple site or an ispw already on your computer.

Hrmm, i applyed the dev team jailbreak just to see what would happen, seems to have uploaded a bunch of bundles, and then booted.
I can tell its still got some blackrain in it, cause its still unlocked. That means the black snow is still functioning. Should I delete the black snow and apply the ultrasnow? Is my phone still a blackrain jailbreak or a redsnow jailbreak?

My buddy did that, told him to do a fresh restore ... i strongly suggest that to you too. Give the shift + restore a try, who knows?

I downloaded a supposedly clean custom 3.12 ipsw that installs cydia. is that what homeboy installed?

Yeah he did a custom IPSW from pwnagetool. That guy makes me laugh ... mad easy, mad simple, mad this and that lol
I always backup my OEM IPSWs, never know when you need them ... I'm re-doing my redsnow 0.9 as we speak. All my apps and music are syncing.

Me too, the ipsw's saved on your PC are important. I have at least 12 going back three iphones, and two versions lol

on the upside, installed ultrasn0w, rebooted, found Rogers.
