Oops, I guess I should have mentioned it was in the SMS bubbles titled +8888. I'm assuming Fido sends this, but the phone knows the number as it makes it selectable for dialIng. If it can do that the it can search the contacts for name.
Ya what you're talking about is pure Fido not Apple but I know what you mean. What I do for those is in the text from +8888 just tap the missed call number for a second and it'll show you the dial screen with the contact you have stored under with that number. Read the name and hang up before it actually starts ringing and you find out who called with only a couple seconds work.

Your talking about the missed calls SMS notifications from the Carriers, only way to solve that if they have a new feature that allows your contacts loaded in their system.

Not really. Any programmer worth their weight in salt and about an hour of time could code that feature in if they new how to program in this operating system. The phone interacts with the SMS system, so it's easy enough to drop a selectable name as opposed to a selectable number with a quick search to your contacts.

Kinda unnecessary to do all that work just to display a missed call SMS notification from a carrier._
This notification only kicks in if your phone is off and the call is missed. Why don't you just leave the phone on whole charging overnight and make a profile setting with the profile app from cydia to have total silence and no vibrate during sleeping hours._

Actually, for the longest time I would get those notifications regardless of my phone's on / off status - Rogers really the bed with that "feature".
I would recommend just calling Rogers to have them remove it, it's useless on Smartphones really.

That was first phase they went through when it first came out and the second phase is now when the phone is off.

Now that I have this shinny new IP4, there are more spots where reception is bad, including the job in the mall I'm working on (nevermind the cottage). It's this reason I'm missing calls and getting the messages. For what's it's worth, it not that much coding at all and would make the missed messages easier to deal with. Apple has all the time in the world for keeping on top of screwing with jailbreakers, so I'm sure a few extra "needs" wouldn't be too much out of their way to implement.

I rather Apple doesnt dev something like this, more load and scanning time ... Also more cpu power for a minor feature like this
Like we suggested 100x, slapp a case on it if your getting spotty coverage or return the damn IP4 to Apple.
My god you're worse then Granda Simpson. Lol
malek
dude, i have the 3gs and for the last 2 months fido has been absolute garbage!!

Just out of curiosity, do you think a cellular signal amplifier would actually work? They're over $200 but would be worth every penny for me at the cottage, but more important, on some of those spotty jobsites.
