I would say that the quality and intensity of your workouts is more important than how many times you work a muscle group in a week.
Agreed. I have seen how doing sloowwww negatives and really exploding through the contraction can make your average workout, same reps, same weight, way way harder and give better pump and results.
I think that most people if doing proper form, and proper technique, would realize that isolating a muscle is a crazy thing to do and the key is that weight training is also known as RESISTANCE training. If its easy, youre doing it wrong!!!
Equal and opposite reactions, the harder you push the weight up, the harder it wants to stay and you work out harder. Slow up and fast downs do NOTHING!!!

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn guys this thread is on Fuego!!!
Very nice and workful replys here!

So i should push harder every time i go to the gym! Like giving the last to each rep.!
How many reps do you recommend or how many you do for each muscle? im in need of advice!

If you want to get stronger and bigger, lift heavy weights and do exercises that work big muscle groups. Try to add more weight to your routine as often as you can while still maintaining good form. Eat a lot of food and get a good amount of sleep.
That's about all there is to it.

3 sets of 8-12 is what i go by which I think is pretty common...it depends on whether you want to be bulkly or lean.

Regarding the convo above talking about diffent kind of muscle stimulation (slow, explosive etc)
Take a look at that program. For example:
Monday:
Flat BB Bench 3x6 (Heavy weights, explosive training style, one-second pause between each individual rep. 5-minute rest between sets.)
Incline BB Bench 2x10 ( Sub-maximum weights, normal speed of movement with only a very brief pause in the extended position of each rep. 3-minute rest between sets.)
Vertical machine press 1x20 (Slow, concentrated reps with no pause in the extended position. The muscle must be kept under constant tension.)
And so on
I started it several weeks ago and its great. Im cutting right now but For first 3 weeks my strength didnt go down. Infact my bench and military press increased. Now Im starting to see some strength loss (due to me loosing fat / and unfortunately little bit of muscle. )
Also, someone mentioned about switching up. Good call. Your body gets used to same routine. So switching programs up is great. Last year I did this: http://www.leehayward.com/workout_programs/
Its a 12 week program and every 3 weeks it changes up. After 12 weeks all my lifts were up and my gains were great too.
Cheers

I've been doing smooth, slow momvements on both the up and down, trying hard to keep proper form throughout.
Do you think it's better to explode through the up and then come down slow?
