I cannot claim to speak from experience, as a 5k is my longest run, but I imagine that the boredom/mental fatigue is way harder to overcome than the physical...? |
This is why God invented long progressive house mixes. With some good music and nice surroundings, running is just bliss, especially when you've done it for a while and it becomes almost effortless. You just feel like you're flying.
The hard part is digging deep when you really are pushing yourself. When I do a long run, the first 12-15 miles are very easy and pain free, but then fatigue sets in and my legs start to become very heavy. Having the grit to keep going when you know there's another hour before you can stop is not easy. But when you're five miles away from home and you're wearing shorts and a T-shirt in November, digging deep is the only available option. |
