after two straight days of running (3.1 and 4.25 miles), my work pants already felt more comfortable whilst sitting. |

You're backwards bro...u can never do too much cardio but u can overtrain with weightlifting quite easily. This is one of the most common rules of working out. You do not grow when training and u do not grow at the gym, lol. You grow when your sitting on you're ass allowing you're body to repair itself. You will never make gains like that, and it will make u very skinny. |
Thank you for your professional advice on what I am doing wrong with MY body. I had no idea that your muscles grow and recover during sleep and relaxation. Perhaps you could lecture me on dieting as well?
I've been lifting for 9 years and I'm pretty confident I know what works and what doesn't work for my body by now. I've helped many friends start out in the gym and I've always gave them guidance on what has worked for ME and that it might not work for them. Everyone reacts differently. Preacher curls might have worked wonders for my biceps but they might not do jack for Joe the Plumber. I've approached my workouts with a plan, a proper diet, and 7-10 hours of sleep a day.
We probably have different views on overtraining. To me it isn't time in the gym or how much you grow... it'd be snapping muscles, not being able to get out of bed, pushing the body past what it can do, etc. With your mentality, heavy laborers on construction sites should work for a few hours and then take the next 3-4 days off to "sit on their ass" and relax. |

Was than an all-out cardio peak or just a fat-burn jog? Grats though, I can barely run for more than 3 miles nowadays without getting bored.
In other news, just done my 3rd workout of the week. If you were looking to tone but not bulk-up a great deal, would you recommend doing a daily fat-burn jog of around 25 minutes or is that too much? |

| i run with the runnyc club here in central park in ny (sponsored by nike) so the runs are kinda assigned by short and long. my 3 mile run on monday was to just get back into it after about 8 weeks of nonactivity (aside from snowboarding). i ended up running at around 8:15 pace for that day. on my tuesday 4.25 mile run, we incorporated more intensity when running uphill. it was broken down into thirds -- first third, we kept our momentum going, second third, we pick up the pace, last third we pushed it even more, and made sure to go over the crest of a hill to maintain momentum. my legs were hurting me the last day but the run felt really good. |

then did some ab work w/ 25 and 35 lb'er weights.
then 3 sets of the following: 10 leg lifts, 5 dips (in cap't chair thing)
then 5,4,3,2,2 pullups.
FELT GREAT!

There's a guy I know from high school that goes to my gym, and he's a ing machine. He was doing these crazy ab/core/arm/back/leg...well, all over really...exercises hanging from the pull up bar. He was hanging with his arms flexed, and his back nearly parallel to the floor. His legs were extended out in front of him and then he was swinging them back and forth in a semicircular motion. I guess I'd compare it to the ticking of a metronome. I might need to MS paint a picture of it, lol.
But yeah. Nuts I tell ya. I was aching just watching him. |
