Increase your overall caloric intake, take up to 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. workout 3 - 4 days a week doing heavy sets & low reps. Make sure you include a legs day once a week, try to do squats if you're able (some people's backs / knees can't handle them) as spinal compression speeds up muscle growth.
I bought Schwarzenegger's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding several years ago and it has been great for teaching me new exercises with proper form, it's just a bit emasculating. Nothing you can't find online though.
I got fat then cut, it's the fastest way to gain muscle but it's pretty ty being fat. if you want to gain lean muscle only you'll really have to watch your diet and make adjustments as you go along. |

That'll do it. Though I fail to understand why everybody wants to get so big. You can be just as strong without being bulky, in fact bodybuilding is notoriously unhealthy. (I've been able to out-curl guys with arms twice as thick as mine at the gym, and these guys were seriously cut). If you wanna get big, by all means. If you wanna be strong and healthy for the long term, there are better ways to go about it. Another thing, it's far better on your legs (if you have the time) to work them out by running/biking rather than lifting. Why do you need bulky legs anyways? Even if you were a kickboxer you wouldn't want them that bulky. Too much muscle on your legs only serves to slow you down and add unecessary weight to your person.
Then again, most people just wanna get big and bulky as fast as they can =/. I guess health < looks. |

you can eat more. You just have to train yourself to do it.
I'm a hard gainer with a similar challenge but I'm gradually increasing my consumption (went from 3 meals to 5/6 per day), along with more consistent workout.
I think I might need to get a personal trainer soon though to really push myself to achieve my goals. |

How are you guys able to work out after a days work? I know its fairly easy too but i'm working 10 or 11 hour days on a shift system so i could be up at 4:30am and home at 5pm or up at 12pm and home at 11pm.
Do you find working out before work is better than after work?
Do you take energy drinks to help with workout? |

For me, good gainer splits are back/chest, tris/shoulders, legs/biceps. That split is one of my favorites but really hard to pull out. Dunno how long you've been working out, but i've found that trying lots of exercise and monitoring growth helps. Then I just use the ones that help with weight gain.
Have you done any weights before? If not, I would start with something more simple, just to get your muscles into shape. After a month or so then move onto weight gaining.
Here's a link with some good info. Read up, you'll find some useful info there. |
