I started out going to the gym with my mates, but I found we'd spend too much time talking and joking about, and the workout would stretch for 1-2 hours. I know it's good because there's someone there to motivate you through those final reps, and I do miss spotting, but overall I found it an inefficient way to work out.
At home, I can do a whole routine in 30-40 minutes. There's no time wasted so I get a more intense, efficient workout where I can try new things and optimise what works for me. |
I agree with this wholeheartedly, but I don't care. I like catching up with my mates and I'm quite happy to spend twice as long at the gym talking to achieve that. If I was into serious bodybuilding or looking ultra-cut it would be different, but I just want to keep fit so it doesn't really bother me. |

| i'm z firm believer in working out alone. i don't want to talk or listen to ANYONE, i used to do upper body days with a friend and we had fun and a decent workout but that is only because we had the same philosophy. i can't be bothered with people who want to socialize. also i do a lot of thinking at the gym and i cherish that time to just think about life and relax. |

| My knee is finally getting better. Might start doing some light jogging on the beach next week and then head back to the gym the week after to slot into my regular routine. |

That's one of the reasons I like to do my runs alone, apart from the fact I want to set my own pace rather than having to adjust to someone else's.
I normally run after work. It's a great way to clear the mind and process things you have been working on. |

dude, i wish i would've started running in the gym a long time ago; i ed up my ankle last month, twisted it on a ghetto piece of sidewalk. couldn't run for 3 weeks without it bothering me. i just feel that running on a nice padded track or a treadmill causes less impact than hard-ass, uneven street/sidewalk pavement |

haha seriously...the gym is not the place to socialize. You need to be focused and bust your ass or no point in going. |

I don't deny that the social aspect of having your friends along at the gym can certainly make it a more pleasant experience, but it can also be a really efficient way of getting nothing done (at least in my experiences); nothing worse than laughing in between reps.
Several years ago, my best friend began accompanying me to the gym, and it slowly got to the point where we would get to the gym, eat a sandwich, and leave. |

lol @ eat a sandwich. Every Monday my gym orders a ton of pizza and gives out a slice to anyone who wants one. wtf...a ing pizza? Why not give out protein shakes or something. Pizza is the worst thing for us vane folk, but is it good. |

Actually, I wish I could spend more time at the gym. Although I'm a loner, I feel 60~90 minutes is not enough. During the holidays I always try to spend at least a couple of hours there: It's enough time to work out properly and then run for an hour or so. |
