Do you find working out before work is better than after work?
Do you take energy drinks to help with workout? |
working out before work is better, cuz you might actually do it hehe.
No coffee or energy drinks within 2 hours of working out, you get too shaky.
If you want that energy, get some NoXplode or phosphagen elite (not the normal phosphagen) and take that with a 1 scoop protein powder drink the SECONNNND you wake up.
then take a shower, get dressed, etc... and by the time you hit the gym youll have some food in you and some energy.
for weight gain, youre simply not eating enough. I used to be realllllly thin and I thought I was eating so much. I ate like a skinny person does, 3 sandwiches a day, and maybe a protein shake.
You have to have large breakfasts, intense workouts, and a continuous stream of food and protein all day. Eatings harder than working out.
check out that site someone posted, itll show you your RMR and for me its 1950 calories. Which means I should be eating 2300 calories if I dont work out. if I DO work out i need to be eating over 3000 and if you use fitday.com and ballpark what youre eating im guessing its under 2000. You need at least a 4th meal and 3 protein shakes a day in your diet somewhere if you arent gaining.
and work out harder. |

That'll do it. Though I fail to understand why everybody wants to get so big. You can be just as strong without being bulky, in fact bodybuilding is notoriously unhealthy. (I've been able to out-curl guys with arms twice as thick as mine at the gym, and these guys were seriously cut). If you wanna get big, by all means. If you wanna be strong and healthy for the long term, there are better ways to go about it. Another thing, it's far better on your legs (if you have the time) to work them out by running/biking rather than lifting. Why do you need bulky legs anyways? Even if you were a kickboxer you wouldn't want them that bulky. Too much muscle on your legs only serves to slow you down and add unecessary weight to your person.
Then again, most people just wanna get big and bulky as fast as they can =/. I guess health < looks. |
Size has it advantages. It's simple mechanics. If you have more muscle fibers the tension is distributed over a larger number of fibers and each fiber carries less tension. That equals: 1) a higher weight ceiling, 2) less proneness to injury when handling big weights. Big muscles don't necessarily mean more strength, but I bet you've never seen a skinny guy at the strongest man in the world competitions. |

I disagree about not drinking coffee or energy drinks...it depends on the person whether it wigs u out enough where your all jittery or not. I've seen a few write ups from good sources about drinking a cup of coffee right before u hit the gym to help u out. It works well for me. I wouldn't waste the money on those supplements either just for a boost in energy when u can get it from cheaper sources. |

| It depends on how much youve eaten, caffeine tolerance, and time of day of course, but generally there are cleaner energy sources out there that dont make you crash afterwards. |

This is true, but what happens to all that muscle as you age 0_o? I'm just talking about being healthy for the long-term of your life, I'm not disputing that more mass = more strength, I'm just saying that being big is not necessarily healthy. I'm not talking about being stick-skinny either, just fairly trim, and so long as you get a decent amount of calcium and protein you won't have to worry about being injured. This thread is called "Workout Thread" Not "Tips to get big thread" so I was just giving my input as to working out WITHOUT going for massive weight gain and such, but it seems as though everybody here just wants to bulk up so my input seems better placed elsewhere. If you wanna get big, then more power to ya, but it's far from the only "workout".
Also, you'll be a hell of a lot healthier if you just stick to water and stay away from caffine and energy drinks. Your body will eventually learn to energize itself on its own without the help of caffine and other stimulants, and you'll be much more hydrated which will help with pretty much everything. And all that crap about gatorade being better for you than water = pure bull. Water is the best thing to drink when you are working out, regardless of what you are doing. |

giving up caffeine is craziness but i do agree with you on gatorade, unnecessary for most people working out

No one is saying it is the only workout, or the only way to keep healthy. I don't believe anyone here is attacking your point of view. The thing is most people in this thread are either attempting to gain muscle mass for looks, or strength or whatever reason. I myself am fond of calisthenics. I use them in tandem with weight exercises in order to gain strength.
Also, if you read through this thread, no one thinks being big = being healthy. Most people here, even the people that are quite big, still keep healthy by doing cardio or other forms of exercise. I myself practice yoga, do cardio from time to time and play soccer when the weather is not ty.
And when you age muscle tends to breakdown into fat which you can promptly burn away be exercising. |

yep. cardio plays a key role in my wellbeing program. nothing like a nice jog or cycle, or an intense game of squash on a sat morning, to help clear the mind and energise the body, mind and soul.
eating right is also extremely important for me because I wasn't so consistent with it in the past. |
