So there are 90+ pages here and there are 3 other threads to sift through... could someone point me in the direction of posts listing ideas for starting new workout regime?
::ducks::
I just want to tone up in a non-tedious manner.
Target Area: Abs + arms. |

as horrible as this sounds and believe me because i'm going through it now...
fat burning and toning all starts with cardio, and unfortunately doesn't have a thing to do with lifting weights lol
so treadmill it out and you'll see lbs melt off and tone in areas you haven't noticed before. |

yeah... my only problem is that i am limited by an ankle injury that refuses to heal. i get shin splints instantly. which sucks because it happens now when i dance. i end up having to sit with a bag of ice on my leg if i don't stretch it properly. i am trying to work with it but it's very freakin annoying.
maybe if i slowly ramp up treadmill running... ? |

go low impact then
jump rope, bike, rollerblade, elliptical
maybe start with some balance drills, body bars, lunges, free standing squats, leg lifts, ball exercises
they may seem boring at first and kind of rediculous, but you'll learn later how much they help you.
i always find those to be good compliments to low impact cardio, especially if you're just starting out...i wouldn't touch weights until you shave off some lbs, tone some areas, and then you can do some muscle group focus lifting...just my cents don't have to follow my advice =) |

sounds good to me! the balance drills will probably help strengthen my ankle too. any idea where i can find instructions for what you mentioned? i think years of avoiding the giant muscled dudes at the clubs has created an aversion to talking to them in real life, so i am not sure i could ask someone at a gym. =) |

I wish, I used to do 45 minutes of cardio 4-5 days a week and I lost maybe a few pounds of fat after a couple months
it was 80% max HR too |

cheshirepk8, if you have access to a pool... swim.
I lost 40lbs in 3 months just by swimming 1/4 mi. 3 times a week, as well as watching what I ate.
If not, try the eliptical, I have bad knees and I can run on it for 40 mins without a problem. |

| what do you mean fat burning has nothing to do with lifting? that isn't right. yeah cardio is the key BUT the more muscle mass you have the more efficiently your body burns calories while you aren't exercising. if i increased my cardio and lessened my weights sessions i guarantee i'll turn into a fat ass |
