I usually use about 60lbs. Try raising your heel off the ground as you do it to and roll your body into it youll feel it a lot more than just side to side. |
That exercise makes your waist wider. That's not good. |

makes your obliques and hip horns bigger, but if youre doing it right youre dumping the fat and growing the muscle. Its just redistributing the mass. a HGUE CHEST and HUGE LEGS and this soft belly is a little hedonistic looking.
Waists should be small *in proportion* to your legs and chest. Not objectively tiny like everyone should shoot for a 28 inch waist |

Well, you can't really decrease the size of your legs(stomach) w/o losing fat all over your body, since you cannot lose fat locally. That only leaves you the option of losing muscle mass on legs...do you really need advice on how to go about doing that? |

You can't lose fat locally, nor with weights (well, theoretically you can with weights, but it's negliable because of very love calorie consumtpion). :p
However, you have a point, though most people that do those side bends don't really have a need for it as their legs and chest aren't so big that their waist makes them out of proportion. |

Its what shwarzenegger came up with after devoting time to each muscle of his body and seeing the proportions that emerged. The ridiculous size of his body made it easier to see
Biceps and calves should be same size, the back and chest form a V to the waist, etc.
Also yeah, there are things you really shouldnt be. the body being a product of lifestyle (and yes of course genetics to a degree) means that how you look carries a stamp of lifestyle on you.
Theyre not so much rules as they are guidelines

I never do the workout myself. I think rope crunches that get the serratus and solid core workouts like reverse situps are just fine. I dont have the requisite mass to make obliques entirely necessary for a balanced look. Low weights do help some of the muscles in the core and it burns some calories so why not hehe. |

Kept the 35lb weight and did trunk bends while slightly raising my heels and I do admit I felt it more in my obliques :).
Also you guys are talking about whether this exercise is even worth it and for me I think it is because it helps maintain/achieve an hourglass figure...Orbax mentioned 28" as small but that imo for me is too big since I am female |
