It depends quite a lot on the speed, don't you think? 5 miles per hour (9km/h, actually) is not that slow. |

Yeah but all you're doing on a treadmill is keeping up with it. As opposed to running on the road, where you have to use your own momentum to power you along.
Believe me dude, I've been running the track for months now and every time I have to use the treadmill when the track is closed, I can run twice as fast and twice a long. |

Your body works totally different when running on a track vs running on a treadmill. It's not necessarily "easier" but it is different.
edit // Another thing a lot of people don't realize is that when the treadmill's incline is set to 0 it's actually at a slight downgrade. If you want to run on level ground it has to be at a 1. You should be fluctuating your inclines on a treadmill too. |

I believe you, but given the place where I live (and the kind of person I am :p), it pays off.

I imagine so - my shin often hurts when I'm running on a track, and it never happened on a treadmill. So, to make it up for the difference, I run faster at the gym. |

The only time I've ever run on a treadmill was for a stress test and I didn't like it. I also hate running on roads, though. Only grassy fields or trails for me.

| my knees are ed and running outdoors tends to make them feel bad like krypton's penis. A treadmill is better than no running. |
