This is why I'm doing the routine I'm doing now. It's for beginners but I'm putting 100% of my effort into technique. Been doing this for a month and now the weight is actually getting high enough that it poses a slight challenge. Makes me feel so good looking at those juice monkeys putting their whole body into a lat pull down and I'm pumping out more pull ups than they could ever hope to do. |
+1... . i've been doing a similar workout to the one you posted and it's working wonders in the past couple months. gained 15lbs, which i mostly chalk up to noob gains in my lower body and core from the squats/deadlifts... also made me believe the idea that lower body exercises release hormones that grow your upper body too.
more people should understand that simple 3x5/5x5 style workouts are the way to go unless you're already huge. progress your max in the main lifts (squat, deadlift, press, bench) each week and worry about all the cable/freeweight exercises way down the road, when you can do them with HEAVY weights. i wish i read Rippetoe's book and understood this no-bull approach years ago. |

Hell yes. So many wasted hours doing worthless dumbell/cable/machine exercises in the past 5-6 years (off and on). The best part about doing a routine like this is that what you do in the gym is transferred to everyday life much more so than machine exercises, which don't really do anything for a person. I've actually become quite anti-machines lately. My friends still insist on using them no matter how many times I tell them they're wasting their time and energy.
This is the website where I got my routine from, btw http://stronglifts.com/ |

i'm a runner and i can tell you right now, DON'T get foot gloves for immediate distance running... heed your trepidation.
i could see you trying to go barefoot on grass for a while, and then transitioning to the FG for longer distances and on harder surfaces, but you are asking for trouble going from your old asics to FGs... you would lose so much support and cushioning overall making that dramatic of a switch, that you have to give the muscles that stabilize your body (in your lower limbs, feet, ankles) a chance to develop.
if you were feeling a blister on your heel from your old asics, and you try using the foot gloves get ready for a whole new world of pain.
granted, that's not to say that you couldn't get used to foot gloves just walking around. but running in them is asking to be injured.
go with another pair of asics. great running shoe. |
Word.
I figure if I ever have an extra $80 I'll buy a pair of these.
Buy a pair of these.
Buy a pair of these.
I'll stop.
But in all seriousness, yeah, the shoes seem far more practical. |

Machines ing suck. They allow limited, artificial exercises which give you limited, artificial strength, inefficient workouts and far more injuries. I seriously doubt I could go into a gym now and use machines. I'd feel like too much of a sucker. |

You can but you need to vary your workout. People end up doing the same things over months which doesn't stress the muscles enough so it's important to change a work out every once in a while.
Some machines totally suck though no matter when or how you use them. Just gotta figure out what works best for you. |

The workout I'm doing adds weight every time I step into the gym so there's always progress. When you stall you deload 10% of the weight and start increasing the weight again. |

| Well I ran till I puked today, and I gotta say: there's nothing enjoyable about it at all. Whoever says otherwise is a ing moron and/or a masochist. |

| I didn't do it on purpose. Lol. I run through the park near my house. When I get through I have to cut out into the road and cross the street/walk through residential area to get back to my house. I stopped running before I had to cross the street, and that's when I puked. |
