yeah exactly. i like to use wraps on lots of things...helps keep form good so you're actually going til failure of the muscle and not your grip... |

I don't like to do shrugs at the end of back day myself, because you use your grip a lot on most back movements. But on any other day it's fine.

That's the point of not using straps. If your grip gives out, do it again and again until you get stronger and your grip no longer gives out. I can shrug 405 with my traps right now, but my grip gives out in like 7-8 reps. After i'm done there I go over to the dumbbell rack, pick up the heaviest DBs and hold them as long as I can, then immediately go ten pounds lighter and hold that for as long as I can, and so on until I can hold the weight for about 45 seconds without dropping it. In time i'll be doing 10 reps, with 405, slowly, no straps. It just takes time.
Also for me, I can't do the grip exercises with the bar where you flex your wrist, as my right wrist is ed up. |

I love Muscle Milk. That is all. Carry on gymrats :p
edit // And about the wraps/gloves thing. A buddy told me that it was better not to use them because it will actually make your grip stronger. Is that true or would I be better off using gloves. I hate that my hands get all calloused at the end of the day. |

| people will do what they like. i understand the whole..."grip gets stronger" and it's probably true...but then again most people don't work their forearms...they rely on stuff like that to work their forearms secondarily. i'm also not real interested in lifting 400-500 lbs for shrugs...doesn't fit with my goals. |

Not using straps will.
As for gloves...only use them if you want to keep your hands soft for your lady friend who likes soft hands because she really is secretly a lesbo but doesn't want to admit it and instead goes for guys with long hair and soft hands who wear tight jeans and earrings. |

That's fine for you. But i'm talking about these big six foot monsters who be benching like 350-400 and they're using straps on 225 and crap...what's up with that man!? |

on the other end of the spectrum, guys with 30 inch necks who can shrug 600 pounds are generally the type of guys who workout to impress the other guys in the gym instead of women.
I'd say the goal for most guys is to fall somewhere between being unable to scratch the back of their heads and looking like a 12 year old with stubble and for that goal, hand wraps work perfectly.
Also, guys that can bench upwards of 350 and use hand wraps to shrug a few plates need to stop benching for a while and work on their grip - that's just unbalanced. |

| To increase my grip strength, and thus increase my shrugging capabilities, I crush the heads of small to medium sized farm animals with my bare hands. |

Hmm...I'm very interested in this approach. What, in your opinion, would qualify as 'small to medium'? |

I typically classify chickens as 'small' and smaller goats/dogs as 'medium'.
In all actuality, I have freaked myself out a little bit just talking of this nonsensery. :nervous: |
