That might be true, but only for people that are training for shorter to mid distances (say, < 5k).
I run 4 times a week (200-250k a month) but I've never even come close.
I don't believe that pushing yourself that far does any good for you when you're a long distance runner. |
All I know is I'll never reach my career goals if I let a little bit of discomfort and vomit bother me. The guy I'm modeling myself after (SF) told me everyone throws up when they're trying to make time for their 10 mile runs, so they don't get dropped from the unit or from training.
Another guy I know (pararescue) trying to get a friend to join the Air Force showed us some training videos from the special tactics squadrons, and they were all puking their guts up too.
So I push myself hard knowing I will be pushed much harder in the future. If I can't handle it now I won't be able to handle it then.
Either way everyone has to set their own goals and do whatever they feel comfortable with. I feel comfortable running myself until I feel nausea... others don't. That is cool if you don't but I wouldn't want that person on my team. |

Now here's a guy that knows how to train. Props dude. I guess some people in here have never heard of the term, "no pain no gain". Puking does not mean you are sick. Were not talking about an infection, lol. NYCE, do yourself a favor and pick up a few books cause you need it if your trying to judge me. I've been in this game a long time, and results don't lie. |

holy crap you just don't get it do you. we're not talking about making time for 10 mile runs here. we're talking about HIIT.

bringing me back to my origial post and point - if you're throwing up during/after HIIT you're doing wrong. |

I agree with that. Like I said I haven't thrown up in awhile, but I do push myself to feel sick almost every day. |

Wouldn't actually throwing up interfere with your workout? :p
Unless you puke at the very end I guess... |

chances are if you're doing timed 10 mile runs, you're in better cardiovascular fitness than most people even coming to an end on their HIIT workouts lol. it's designed for weight trainers to cut weight fast before a competition, and works well for those trying to lose weigt in general. you on the other and, probably dont have much weight to lose haha |

| Not really. We call it feeding the ducks, so you puke and keep on moving. Let the ducks clean it up. |

I do need to lose weight. I'm only doing 3mi a day right now. Building up to 5 mi in under 40 minutes and then after that going for 10mi in 75 minutes. |

HIIT is not "deisgned" for BB's, its just another way of conditioning. You get the same exact effect doing HIIT for 10 minutes as you do if you did a light jog on the treadmill for 30-45 minutes (as far as fat loss is concerned). Calories in vs. calories out. One is not better than the other, but if you have hit a plateau changing it up to another style usually breaks it. |

still, you'll probably lose that weight quickly. me on the other hand, its a ton harder. after ~2 miles of running, my calves lock up because the veins in my leg are too thin, making the rush of blood after a while too much. it's actually why i looked into HIIT - a great substitute for lengthy running workouts. but it's been too cold and i've been too lazy so back to HIIT when its warm out again, as i dont like sprinting on a treadmill lol |
