Absolutely. It will improve your overall fitness, and DEFINITELY your flexibility. Don't skip out on the Yoga! It's important! |

I'm 220 6'1 and need to start fitting back into my size 34s. I have an elliptical and some free weights but without a solid plan It's hard for me to measure success and really stay motivated.
I'm sure this was probably asked and answered somewhere in the 600+ pages of this thread, but anyone have any suggestions on where/how to start putting a solid plan in place to get into shape? I need a basic but aggressive "checklist" of things to do to start myself off in the right direction |

lol seriously? I'm gonna give it a go once I get the videos. Got roughly 10 kg's to shake off. Maybe this will provide a good start. |

There are endless pages of advice, plans, regimens and diets to be found at your fingertips on Google, but before you begin you have to have a very clear goal. Do you want to lose weight? Get stronger? Get fitter? Get more muscular? Some combination of those? Not only will this decide how you work out, but it'll give you a target to aim for. |

10kg is very do-able. If you think Yoga is gonna be a joke, you're in for a surprise. Your mat might get soaked from all the sweat! Plus, if you do it every week like you're supposed to, your flexibility will double, even triple. |

Absolutely. Its long, but it really, really helps with so many aspects of your fitness. |

When I start P90X+ I'm going to stop watching the yoga video. I'd like to do my own stretches for my own amount of time, and do the poses I want in the order that I want. I think I'll put on a nice ambient set and a visualizer and do my yoga without listening to Tony telling me to breathe :p
Plus, the 90 minutes can be cut to 60 if you skip some of the pointless stuff. |

i've been heavily focusing on running since i've been deployed. which is weird, you'd think it'd be the other way around. but the gym here is too crowded and i needed to gain some running fitness anyway. usually run 1.75-2miles out on the roads here. we've been tapping out in the 90s during the day lately, so i usually run at night. when it's a little cooler. i think i'm down to around 12:30 for a mile and a half or so. which is an improvement for sure. running on the roads is pure for my legs, but i haven't had many issues lately and i've been at it for about 6 weeks now.
only thing i've noticed is when i press down on my left leg, on the bone it kind of hurts. it only hurts when i physically press on it. doesn't hurt when running. i'm guessing there are minor stress fractures, which is why i don't run every day. i do 3-4 days in a row, then take a day off.
calves are sore tonight...it must have been marathon runner's night cause everyone was running super fast i felt like i had to try to keep up haha. |

Where on the leg is it hurting? From your description it sounds like you have Shin Splints. Those are a bummer.
I recently hurt my arch after running 5 miles on the beach in some ty shoes. I have to try to take a break from exercising so I can heal it up before I get back into it. |

nah, it's not shin splints. i had those in high school. real bad. this is actually ON the bone, not the muscular area near the bone, but on the actual tibia...and it's only in a couple of spots...not the whole thing. which is why i figured minor fractures (what with all the concrete running) |

Watch what you eat, try not to eat at all after 9 or 10pm (with exceptions of course), steadily increase cardio and do some weights twice a week if you can. Diet and cardio are pretty much your bread and butter at this point.
I've taken up running, much like many others and it is fantastic. |
