to be honest im pretty slim to begin with. i lost 10lbs very recently and it all pretty much came out of my gut. |
Absolutely not.
Bodybuilding is 1 way street. You cant loose fat and gain muscle at same time. Because:
Gaining weight = your body's daily calorie intake + some calories (usually 500)
Loosing weight = your body's daily calorie intake - 500 or so
So, get yourself on bodybuilding.com forums, read about nurtition etc. Get a solid split (nothing fancy: deadlifts, squat, bench etc) and eat. You can make good muscle gains and minimal fat gains if you do it right.
After you are satisfied with your gains, decrease your calorie intake. I suggest reading articles by Layne Norton. He has a very solid article on how to cut. (Layne is a natural Pro btw).
Get your protein intake up. Get a good multi and whey. Eat good fats and work out and you will grow.
Cheers |

You probably need a bit more time before you can look cut if you just started. I think you need to incorporate more weight training into your routine. Doing cardio to burn fat is great and all but if you have no muscle to show off when the fat is gone what's the point? I don't know about your dietary habits but there's some good information in this thread on what/what not to eat for cutting down or bulking up. Also you might want to establish a clear routine for yourself for example I do a three day split. I do chest/shoulders/tris on monday, legs/traps/abs on wednesdays, back/biceps on friday and cardio every day i go to the gym. Im not trying to cut down so my schedule is probably not the best for you, but just so you get an idea. Also you might one to plan what exercises your going to do. It's important to try alot out at the beginning and then stick to the ones that work for you. Remember everyones body is different so you have to try different things to find out what works best for you. |
Im not a noob to gym. Back in 2003/2004 era i was strictly about muscle training and gaining muscle mass. right now im cutting and leaning down with the upkeep of the muscle. I have my own routine and know what im doing |

Does anyone take supplements or natural substances to recover from the soreness..I guess lactic acid? Are bananas a remedy?
I used to work out all the time when I was 18-24 and never be sore...now 3 years later I am sore for atleast 3 days after especially from lunges and squats.
Thanks |

I dont get sore any more. Im 24. My brother doesnt either and hes 27.
maybe youre just not getting enough rest and sleep generally? or waiting too long between workouts for that muscle.
legs are the most notorious for it though. You just gotta rest homie. |

There are some products out there such as DOMS Ease which claim to help with DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) which is what you're experiencing. Vitamin C has also been shown to reduce DOMS.
I get it when I have not worked a particular muscle group in over a month but workout with the intensity and weight I did before my break.
Stretching before and after a workout does help as does vitamin C and ibuprofen to reduce inflammation.
I understand what you're saying in that you used to workout when you were younger and didn't get sore - that is a product of youth but it has little to do with your physical make up then compared to now. When you were 18-24 you were no doubt less sedentary, your muscles and ligaments were used to constant stress. The younger people are the tier they workout as well. Poor form, improper weights, intensity in the wrong areas and things like that. I see many people in that age range working out for 1 and a half to 2 hours 7 days a week which is simply ridiculous, but they certainly will not get sore by doing their aerobic 'weightlifting' routines.
You should be sore after a solid workout, just not for 3 days. By soreness I'm assuming you mean actual pain and stiffness, not a lack of glucose and ATP. I did legs yesterday, for example, and while I'm not in pain I have difficulty walking up and down stairs due having expended my energy reserves. That is a sign of a good workout and something you should expect.
I would increase the frequency of your legs days to once per week / 10 days. If you are waiting longer than that you can expect DOMS to be a reoccurring problem. Take Vitamin C regularly, stretch before and after your workouts, take ibuprofen after your workout and get lots of sleep. You should not experience discomfort at the level i'm assuming you are if you do that. |
